If you loved Hogwarts Legacy, choose your next game by the part you want more of: spell-heavy combat, a fantasy world to roam, a school-like setting, or a story-led RPG. None of these games recreates Hogwarts or the Wizarding World, but each shares some of the appeal. Hogwarts Legacy is a single-player, open-world action RPG set in the 1800s Wizarding World, according to its official site.
How to choose a game after Hogwarts Legacy
“Like” can mean different things here. The recommendations below identify their strongest overlap rather than treating them as interchangeable: some offer broad exploration, some lean on magic and combat, and others focus on quests, lore, or a fantasy-school atmosphere. Platform and edition availability can vary, so check the exact version for your system before buying.
Open worlds and fantasy exploration
1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
Choose Skyrim Special Edition if free-form fantasy exploration and the option to build a character around magic matter most. You can roam a large fantasy setting, pursue factions and quests, and approach combat in different ways. Its sandbox structure is less focused on a school and a guided third-person adventure than Hogwarts Legacy. The Games Like guide recommends it for its fantasy freedom, magic, factions, and exploration.
2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
For a richly written fantasy journey with substantial side quests, try The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Its large world and story-focused exploration are a good match if you enjoyed uncovering lore and taking detours, but its dark tone, distinct protagonist, and monster-hunting focus make it very different from a magical-school adventure. Both GameSpot’s recommendations and the Games Like guide point to it for players drawn to lore-rich worlds and story-driven side quests.

- Geralt features his classic Viper Armor dyed teal like you can do in game

3. Red Dead Redemption 2
If the main attraction was the pleasure of inhabiting a detailed world and wandering away from the main story, Red Dead Redemption 2 offers a different kind of open-world immersion. It trades spells and fantasy for a grounded Western setting, so it fits best when exploration and character-driven missions matter more to you than magic.
4. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey suits players looking for a large historical-fantasy adventure, action combat, and plenty of quests. Its ancient Greek setting and mythic elements provide a change of flavor from the Wizarding World; choose it for roaming and action rather than school life or spellcasting.

- Designed with Ultra Articulation with up to 22 moving parts for full range of posing
- Includes extra hands, leviathan axe, byfrost and base

5. Horizon Forbidden West
Try Horizon Forbidden West if you want a polished third-person action RPG built around exploration, quests, and discovering the history of its world. Its science-fiction setting and ranged combat differ sharply from Hogwarts Legacy, but it can scratch the itch for a story-rich adventure with a world worth investigating.
Magic, spells, and party-based fantasy combat
6. Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a candidate for players who want fantasy magic, companions, and a mysterious story. GameSpot highlights its magic and open-world aspect, but its areas and progression are not the same as one continuous open-world school adventure. Consider it for character relationships and fantasy combat rather than a direct structural substitute.

7. Dragon’s Dogma 2
For action-focused fantasy combat, Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers a world to traverse and encounters that reward experimenting with different fighting roles. It is a stronger fit for players drawn to dangerous exploration and active combat than for anyone seeking a school setting or a spell collection modeled on Hogwarts Legacy.
8. Final Fantasy XVI
Final Fantasy XVI is worth considering if you want dramatic fantasy storytelling and spectacular magical battles. Its progression is more structured than a broad, freely explored world, so its appeal lies in narrative momentum and combat spectacle rather than sandbox freedom.

This action RPG combines fantasy quests, exploration, and flexible combat builds. Its colorful fantasy world may appeal if you want another adventure in which magic is part of the fighting, although its presentation and structure are distinct from the school-centered story in Hogwarts Legacy.
10. Fable II
The Fable series is a recommendation from GameSpot for its charm and gameplay, but the specific entry and edition matter when choosing a version to play. Fable II is a possible pick for players who want whimsical fantasy and a more playful tone; check platform and edition availability for your system before settling on it.

Fantasy schools and coming-of-age stories
11. Persona 5 Royal
If balancing student life with a secret supernatural adventure was a major part of the appeal, Persona 5 Royal offers a strong school-and-fantasy contrast. It combines everyday routines with turn-based dungeon combat and a long character-focused story. Its city-based structure and combat style are very different from a real-time, open-world action RPG.
12. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Fire Emblem: Three Houses centers on a military academy, relationships, and turn-based tactical battles. It is a good option if you want to spend more time with students and a fantasy institution, but not if your priority is freely exploring a large world or casting spells in real-time combat.
13. Hogwarts Legacy
If you are not ready to leave its particular setting, returning to Hogwarts Legacy with a different house choice or a different approach to side content can offer another way to experience its story. This is a replay suggestion, not a new game; the official description characterizes it as an open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books.
Story-rich adventures with a different kind of magic
14. Immortals Fenyx Rising
Immortals Fenyx Rising mixes exploration, mythological creatures, puzzles, and action combat in a bright fantasy setting. It can suit players who want a lighter adventure with powers and world discovery, though its emphasis on puzzles and Greek mythology gives it a different feel from life at Hogwarts.
15. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Choose The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for discovery-driven exploration and the freedom to approach challenges in your own order. Its fantasy world is less focused on dialogue-heavy RPG quests and has no school-life element, but it is a strong fit if what you want next is the sensation of setting off into a world full of places to investigate.
