If you want a game specifically about cult management, Honey, I Joined a Cult is the clearest fit: it is built around running a cult’s base, followers and resources. Cult of the Lamb is the pick if you want cult leadership combined with action and dungeon runs. A third game, JOIN US, was reported as planned for March 2027, so it is one to watch rather than a game to buy now.
This is not a ranked list of eight: the available verified descriptions support two released recommendations and one announced project, not eight comparable picks. The useful distinction is what kind of cult-leader fantasy you want—management, action, or upcoming survival play.
Which cult-leader game fits you?
| Game | Status in October 2026 | What you do | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Honey, I Joined a Cult | Released November 3, 2022; Steam lists Sole Survivor Games as developer and Team17 as publisher. | Manage a cult as a tycoon: grow a base, oversee followers and resources, and build faith, funds and membership. | Players looking for a dedicated management and simulation loop. |
| Cult of the Lamb | Released; the Steam listing presents the player as a cult leader. | Lead a cult while also fighting opponents in action and dungeon content. | Players who want cult-building alongside action rather than a primarily tycoon-style focus. |
| JOIN US | Reported as planned for March 2027; not yet a current recommendation to play. | Reported as an open-world survival game about leading a doomsday cult, with recruitment, a growing compound and beliefs that shape play. | Players interested in a future solo or co-op survival option. |
Honey, I Joined a Cult: the most literal management game
Honey, I Joined a Cult is the strongest match if “run a cult” means keeping an organization and its members functioning. The Steam store description centers on expanding a base, supervising cultists and resources, and increasing faith, funds and followers.
What the management involves
The listed systems cover schedules, skill development, food and maintenance, task priorities, room design, customization and follower wellbeing. That makes the game’s appeal less about simply collecting converts and more about organizing a community: deciding how people spend their time, providing what the compound needs and shaping the rooms they use.
#1 Best Overall
- An NSFW expansion for Cult Following: The One True Game
- Take a walk on the wild side and bring more excitement to your cults
- 75 cards (18 sign cards, 57 question cards)
- Requires base game to play
Choose this one if you want the cult-management aspect to be the main activity. Its tycoon structure is a better fit for players who enjoy coordinating people, needs and a growing base than for someone seeking combat as the central loop.
Cult of the Lamb: cult leadership with action and dungeon runs
Cult of the Lamb also puts you in the role of a cult leader, but its Steam store listing pairs that premise with dungeon activity and fighting opponents. It is the clearer choice if you want to alternate between building up a following and taking part in action-oriented play.
Rank #2
- Cleverly plan your next move in a unique, “simultaneous turn-based” combat system. Unlock new game-changing skills, recruit powerful allies, and collect life-saving resources as you progress.
- Progress through each campaign as a different character with their own set of special abilities.
- Dive into a tale full of danger and excitement and watch it unfold from multiple viewpoints.
- Explore a fantastical world brought to life by evocative pixel art and an atmospheric score.
- English, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish in-game text.
How it differs from a dedicated tycoon
The key comparison is emphasis, not a numerical ranking: Honey, I Joined a Cult foregrounds management systems such as schedules and needs, while Cult of the Lamb explicitly includes combat and dungeon content alongside cult leadership. The available descriptions do not establish an exact proportion of management to action, so treat the distinction as a guide to the games’ stated activities, not a claim about how much time each requires.
JOIN US: a survival game to watch, not a current pick
In June 2026 coverage, PC Gamer described JOIN US as a solo or co-op open-world survival game about leading a doomsday cult, and reported a planned March 2027 release. The reported design includes recruiting members, growing a compound and choosing beliefs that shape play.

- THE CLASSIC GETS THE ALLPLAY TREATMENT - Bid to exchange currencies with the market or your opponents' bids. You'll have to collect sets, make trades, and react to a changing economy to win big!
- THE MARKET CHANGES IN A FLASH - To win, you can’t stick to a plan. Pivot, find undervalued cards, and strike when the market is hot!
- CONSIDER YOUR BID'S VALUE - If you want the market’s cards, you might think you have to bid big. However, be careful of giving your opponents something too good!
- PICK YOUR BATTLES - Try to notice what your opponents are going for. It's likely that they can't have a strong position in all of the currencies; bid accordingly.
- SOMETIMES, BIDDING LOWEST IS BEST - If you have a good hand halfway through the game, it may be good to bid low amounts to maintain your position. You might get lucky as your opponents spend more!
That makes it a possible alternative for players drawn to survival systems and the option of co-op, rather than a confirmed substitute for either released game. The March 2027 date is a reported plan, not confirmation that the game is available or that its schedule has not changed.

“Games where you lead a cult” can refer to quite different experiences: hands-on management, action with a cult-building layer, or survival. A list of eight would only help if each entry were verified as a real fit and its current availability checked. The two released games above have official Steam descriptions supporting their core premises; the upcoming entry is based on dated reporting. That evidence supports these distinctions, but not a confident eight-place ranking.

Player discussions also mention Cultist Simulator and The Shrouded Isle, but a community recommendation alone does not establish the player role, mechanics or present availability. They are not included here as verified recommendations.
