The best personality mod for The Sims 4 depends on what you mean by “more personality.” For trait-driven social behavior, start with Personalities+. To reorganize traits, consider BetterSims Personality. To select more traits in Create a Sim (CAS), choose More Traits in CAS. For less manual trait selection as Sims age, look at Random Traits & Aspirations. These mods serve different purposes; none is a universal winner, and compatibility should be checked on each creator’s page before installing.
What do you want a personality mod to change?
“More personality” can mean more visible social behavior, a different way to organize traits, extra selectable slots in CAS, or more automatic choices as Sims age. Those are separate jobs. EA says personality traits are selected in CAS, while traits can also be unlocked through gameplay or bought in the Rewards Store; completing an aspiration earns bonus traits. According to the creator, each teen-or-older Sim receives a random archetype when a save loads. Players can remove it or select another through a phone menu. The mod also adds personality-specific buffs, likes and dislikes, and extra interactions after a Sim learns another Sim’s archetype. That random starting assignment is a key trade-off if you prefer to choose every personality detail yourself.
The creator lists XML Injector and Custom Preferences by Zerbu as requirements, and describes the mod as base-game compatible. The listed release 1.4.6 is dated July 22, 2025, and corresponds to game version 1.116.232; that listing does not establish compatibility with the October 2026 game patch. The creator describes a “Character traits” category that can add qualities automatically or let players select them in live mode without using a personality slot. This may suit players who want traits to operate outside the usual CAS-slot model. More Traits in CAS directly addresses the request for more selectable trait slots. Its creator lists these mod limits by age:

The creator says to use the file matching your game and UI versions unless an update was unnecessary, to choose one file for installation, and not to use new files with old games or vice versa. Random Traits & Aspirations is aimed at legacy and generational play where you want age-up decisions to happen with less direct input. The Mod The Sims description says it selects an age-appropriate trait and aspiration, when applicable, as Sims age from baby to young adult. It does not randomize CAS.

The creator says traits can be weighted by family or close relationships, though that weighting is not very heavy. The page labels the mod beta, reports that the creator tested it in their own game, and lists a February 16, 2026 update and base-game compatibility. That creator self-report is not an independent test or confirmation for the current patch.
Other trait packs and behavior overhauls to investigate
PC Gamer’s roundup, updated July 23, 2025, points readers to Vicky Sims’ 100 Personality Traits pack as a way to add many selectable trait choices, and describes Have Some Personality Please! as an overhaul affecting autonomous conversations in relation to traits, moods, and relationships. These are discovery leads from older editorial coverage, not current-patch certifications. Start with the PC Gamer roundup and follow it to the creator’s live page; verify compatibility there before installing either.
How to choose and install safely
- Match the mod to your goal. Pick behavior, trait organization, extra CAS slots, or age-up automation; do not assume one feature supplies the others.
- Check the creator’s live page. Compare its latest file and compatibility notes with your installed game version. A listing for an earlier version is not proof of current-patch support.
- Install required dependencies. For Personalities+, the creator lists XML Injector and Custom Preferences by Zerbu. Confirm any other prerequisites on the relevant creator page.
- Check for conflicts before combining mods. In particular, do not stack trait-slot or trait-override mods without reading their compatibility notes.
- Back up your saves before changing gameplay mods. EA’s mod forum resource advises backing up the Saves folder and organizes mod information around broken or obsolete, updated, and creator-cleared items. A mod missing from a list is not proof that it works. Use the EA Sims 4 mod forum resource and the creator’s own page for patch-related checks.
No hands-on comparison or independently verified current-patch compatibility is established for these recommendations. Treat creator feature descriptions and version notes as claims to verify against the live download page, especially after a game update.
