First identify what “not working” means: Roblox will not open, installation keeps looping, it crashes when you join, it shows an error code, or it opens but cannot connect. The right fix depends on the symptom. Try one change at a time and retest before moving on, as Roblox Support recommends.
Choose the fix that matches the symptom
| What happens | Start with |
|---|---|
| Roblox will not open or crashes at launch | Steps 2–6, then 15 if another app may interfere |
| Installation loops or fails | Steps 3, 5, and 7–11 |
| Roblox opens but cannot connect, or shows error 277 | Steps 12–14 |
| A Windows DLL or system-file error appears | Step 16; record the exact message before attempting repairs |
This is a symptom-based troubleshooting sequence, not a set of 17 fixes Roblox says every player must perform. Stop once the problem is resolved.
17 ways to troubleshoot Roblox on Windows 11
1. Identify the exact failure
Write down what happens and any error code or message. Note whether the app never opens, installation repeats, a crash occurs when joining an experience, or the app cannot connect. This helps distinguish a launch or install problem from a network failure.
2. Restart the PC
Save your work and restart Windows, then try Roblox again. Roblox lists a computer restart as its first general desktop troubleshooting step.

3. Close Roblox processes before reinstalling or updating
If Roblox appears to be open already, close it and check Task Manager for a Roblox process that is still running. End only the Roblox task you recognize, then retry the install or launch. Roblox notes that leaving the app running during installation can cause problems.
4. Check Windows and hardware requirements
Roblox states that its supported Windows versions are 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11, and that a PC needs DirectX 10 or higher feature-level graphics support. Roblox recommends at least 1 GB of RAM and 300 MB of free system storage for installation. Its internet recommendation for a single-use household is 4–8 Mb/s; larger households may need more bandwidth. These are Roblox-published requirements and recommendations, not a promise that every experience will run well on a machine that meets them. See Roblox’s computer hardware and operating system requirements.
5. Check whether you have the current Microsoft Store app
Roblox distinguishes the current Store app, “Roblox – Windows,” with a blue icon, from the older “Roblox” app with a light gray icon. If you use the older app, Roblox’s transition guidance is to install the new app and sign in before uninstalling the old one. Follow Roblox’s instructions for the new Microsoft Store app.

6. Check the browser-to-app handoff
If you click Play on the Roblox website and nothing happens, the issue may be the handoff from browser to app rather than the game itself. Roblox lists Chrome, Firefox, and Edge as supported PC browsers. Try opening Roblox in one of those browsers and launching again. If you already use a supported browser, check whether it prompts you to open Roblox and allow the handoff.

7. Clear browser temporary files and cookies when the browser is involved
For a browser handoff problem or an installation issue that begins from the website, clear the browser’s temporary internet files and cookies using the instructions for your selected browser in Roblox’s desktop troubleshooting guide. Clearing cookies can sign you out of websites, so make sure you know your login details before doing so.
8. Close other programs before installing
Quit other open programs, then run the Roblox installation or update again. Roblox recommends closing other programs during installation because they can interfere with the process.

9. Retry installation from the appropriate official route
Use Roblox’s official website installation route if you play through the desktop client, or the Microsoft Store route if you use the Store app. Avoid unofficial installers. If you are moving from the older Store app, follow the order in Step 5 rather than removing it first.
10. Uninstall, restart, and reinstall
If a normal retry does not work, uninstall Roblox, restart Windows, and reinstall it. Roblox recommends restarting before reinstalling and restarting again between uninstall and reinstall when needed. Its reinstallation instructions cover the process. If the old Store app is involved, follow Roblox’s app-transition order in Step 5.
11. Clear Roblox app data for a suitable case, such as error 277
Use Roblox’s Windows 11 clear-app-data procedure only when the symptom fits, such as persistent app-data trouble or error 277, and follow the steps in Roblox’s error 277 guidance. Clearing app data removes local app data; you will need to reinstall Roblox and sign in again. Do not choose this more disruptive step for an unrelated browser or network symptom.

12. Test a different internet connection
If Roblox opens but cannot connect, try a different trusted connection, such as a personal hotspot, if available. If Roblox works there, the original network is a stronger suspect; if it still fails, the issue may be on the PC or with Roblox itself. Avoid using an untrusted public network for account access.
13. Check firewall and security-app permissions
Firewalls and antivirus products can block Roblox. Open the security product’s allow-list or program permissions and allow Roblox specifically if it was blocked. Do not leave protection disabled as a workaround. See Roblox’s firewall and router guidance.
14. Check the home network or ask the network provider
If other apps also have connection problems, restart the router or modem if you are authorized to do so, then retest. On a managed school, work, or shared network, ask the network administrator. Roblox says client outgoing ports are selected dynamically; if UDP traffic is blocked, router or ISP help may be needed. Do not open broad port ranges without a specific diagnosis and reliable router guidance. If Roblox alone still cannot connect, Roblox advises that persistent error 277 issues may require contacting your ISP.

15. Look for interfering third-party apps
Close overlays, auto-clickers, other game launchers, or similar software that may interact with Roblox, then retry. Change one thing at a time so you can identify whether a particular app is related. Do not disable security software wholesale; use the specific permission check in Step 13 instead.
16. Treat DLL and Windows system-file messages as a separate issue
If Windows displays a specific DLL or system-file error, record the exact wording and consult current Microsoft guidance for that message and your Windows edition. Do not run repair commands copied from an unverified source: the right procedure can depend on the error and Windows version.
17. Contact Roblox Support with useful details
If the steps that match your symptom do not resolve it, contact Roblox Support. Include the exact error or message, your Windows version, whether you use the website client or Microsoft Store app, and the steps you already tried. For a connection failure, include whether Roblox worked on a different internet connection.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What error 277 means
Roblox describes error 277 as a failure to establish a network connection. That makes network diagnosis more relevant than browser cleanup if the app opens but loses or cannot establish a server connection. Roblox’s Windows 11 suggestions for this error include reinstalling, clearing app data, and trying a different internet source; persistent connection problems may need ISP help. Follow its error 277 instructions for the applicable procedure.

When to stop troubleshooting locally
- Ask your network administrator or ISP when Roblox fails only on a particular managed or home network, especially if other services are affected or a different connection works.
- Contact Roblox Support when the issue persists across the symptom-matched steps or appears specific to Roblox.
- Use current Microsoft guidance for a Windows DLL or system-file message rather than applying generic repair commands.
