This list covers 15 options across competitive matches, tactical play, campaigns, zombies, and arcade action—not a measured ranking. Check your regional Google Play listing for current availability and device requirements before installing.
Which Android shooting game should you choose?
Start with the kind of match you want, then check whether the game needs a connection and whether it runs on your device. These games span very different formats, so the list is best read as a set of recommendations by play style rather than a claim that one title is universally superior. Android Authority’s roundup also covers several shooter subgenres, while Google Play’s Action category is a live listing, not a quality ranking. Android Authority’s Android shooter guide Google Play Action category
- Want a mix of online modes? Start with Call of Duty: Mobile.
- Prefer battle royale? Compare PUBG MOBILE and Garena Free Fire MAX.
- Want tactical or short competitive matches? Consider Arena Breakout, Delta Force, Standoff 2, or Critical Ops.
- Looking for campaigns, zombies, or arcade shooting? See Modern Combat 5, Cover Fire, Into the Dead 2, Dead Trigger 2, AirAttack 2, and Sky Force Reloaded.
- Need offline play or a controller? Verify support for the specific game; those features do not apply to the whole list.
15 Android shooters, organized by play style
Online multiplayer and battle royale
-
Call of Duty: Mobile — best all-round online variety. Activision lists 5v5 multiplayer, battle royale, zombies, ranked mode, and customizable loadouts. Its official page is explicit: “An internet connection is required to play this game.” Its battle royale description mentions a 100-player battleground; that is a publisher description of the mode, not an independent measure of game quality. PUBG MOBILE — best-known fit for battle royale fans. It is listed in Google Play’s Action category and appears in Pocket Gamer’s Android shooter recommendations. Johnny Trigger - Shooting Game- Thousands of levels of murderous mayhem to fight through, each demanding a unique tactical solution and speedy trigger fingers! Johnny never stops moving, so when the bad guys line up in your sights, you’ve got just once chance to get shooting. Go for a headshot if you’ve got the skills.
- Be careful not to hit hostages, though. After all you’re the hero of this game, not some crazed killer! Should you accidentally end the life of an innocent civilian, it’s back to square one.
- Hit those hard-to-reach scumbags with the power of physics! Trick shots, ricochets, explosions and gravity are all part of Johnny’s crime-fighting arsenal…
- ...along with guns galore! Cause serious havoc with 57 unique weapons to collect – 11 pistols, 12 SMGs, 9 automatic rifles, 10 superguns and 4 Ultimate guns with fearsome capabilities guaranteed to give the bad guys a nasty shock. For the completist, there’s also 5 base guns, 3 bundle guns and 3 VIP guns. Basically, a shedload of guns to collect, cherish and slaughter gangsters with.
- On the subject of sheds, collect keys to unlock Johnny’s 10 awesome base rooms and get hammering to turn them into luxurious hideaways. Turns out our action hero’s quite the handyman in his free time.
-
Sky Force Reloaded — upgradeable aircraft action. Android Authority describes a top-down aircraft shooter with upgradeable weapons and objectives. It offers a different pace and perspective from first-person multiplayer games. Android Authority’s Android shooter guide
Which games work offline?
Offline support is game-specific, and the evidence for this list does not establish offline play across all 15 titles. Android Authority describes AirAttack 2 as offline-capable and Cover Fire as an offline shooter. Treat those as starting points, not a guarantee that every mode or feature works without a connection; check the current regional store listing and the game’s own requirements. By contrast, Activision explicitly requires internet for Call of Duty: Mobile, and Gameloft’s Modern Combat 5 listing also says an internet connection is required.
Can you use a controller?
Controller support is not universal. Android Authority specifically identifies external gamepad support for AirAttack 2 and hardware-controller support for Xenowerk, which is not one of the 15 picks above. That does not establish controller support for the other games in this list. Check the title’s current listing and test compatibility with your Android device before choosing a gamepad. What to check before installing
- Availability: Google Play listings can vary by country and change over time.
- Device requirements: Check the live listing for Android version, hardware, and storage requirements; this list does not include comparative device-performance testing.
- Connection: Look for a clear internet requirement if you need to play offline.
- Controls: Confirm touch and gamepad support for the specific game rather than assuming it carries over from another shooter.
- Current listing details: Ratings, content information, and other store details can change. The Google Play Action category is useful for discovery, but it is not a ranking of quality. Google Play Action category
