Why spell counts differ
Destructoid’s February 22, 2023 guide calls its list 26 spells, but the individual headings in that article enumerate 27 names. That mismatch means its stated count should not be treated as a definitive in-game total. Destructoid’s guide includes more than conventional learned combat magic: its roster also includes Room of Requirement actions and beast-care or capture actions.
PC Gamer’s February 7, 2023 guide takes a narrower approach, listing 18 learned spells and expressly leaving out the Unforgivable Curses. Neither source establishes an authoritative taxonomy that resolves every inclusion, so totals depend on whether a list counts those curses, Room of Requirement actions, and beast-related tools as spells.

What the broad roster includes
The following 27 names are the entries headed in Destructoid’s guide. This is a transcription of that guide’s roster, not a verified official total:
- Combat and control: Arresto Momentum, Avada Kedavra, Bombarda, Confringo, Crucio, Depulso, Descendo, Diffindo, Expelliarmus, Flipendo, Glacius, Imperio, Incendio, Levioso.
- Exploration and utility: Accio, Alohomora, Disillusionment, Lumos, Reparo, Wingardium Leviosa.
- Room of Requirement: Alter, Conjure, Evanesco.
- Beast care and capture: Beast Brush, Beast Feed, Nab-sack.
- Transformation: Transformation.
These groupings describe broad uses, not a claim that every entry behaves like a spell learned for combat. For example, Accio pulls targets closer, Alohomora is used to pick locks, and the Unforgivable Curses are Avada Kedavra, Crucio, and Imperio.

How to unlock spells
Spells are acquired through classes, the main story, professor assignments, and side quests. Many are optional for main-story progress, though optional spells can help with activities such as Merlin trials. Example unlock routes from PC Gamer’s guide include:

Room of Requirement spells are location-limited
Conjuring, Altering, and Evanesco can only be used inside the Room of Requirement, according to PC Gamer. A broad list that includes them therefore mixes location-specific actions with magic available elsewhere in the game.

The official Hogwarts Legacy site describes an open-world action RPG in which players can “Learn spells, brew potions, grow plants, and tend to magical beasts along your journey.” It lists PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 among the game’s platforms. The site does not publish an official spell count.
