These are role-based picks for a historical FM24 squad database—not claims about Blackburn’s current squad or a guaranteed in-game ranking.
Which FM24 database are these Blackburn picks based on?
This guide uses the FM24 player data represented in Sortitoutsi’s Blackburn FM24 Guide. Treat its listed positions, values and contract dates as database references, not current real-world facts or guaranteed transfer prices. The EFL’s 2023/24 squad list confirms the three players’ historical Blackburn registration context.
FM24’s 24.3 main data update was announced on 29 February 2024. Sports Interactive said it included more than six million data changes, including updated squads and changes to player ability ratings and attributes. To use those updated data, you need to start a new save; an existing save does not adopt them. Choose either the original database or 24.3 when starting, and don’t assume the figures below apply unchanged to both.
Who are the best Blackburn players in FM24 to build around?
| Player | Listed FM24 positions | Listed value and contract | Best save function |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sammie Szmodics | Attacking midfielder, centre | £6m listed value; contract to 30 June 2026 | Immediate attacking focal point |
| John Buckley | Defensive midfielder; attacking midfielder, centre | £4m listed value; contract to 30 June 2027 | Central midfield balance and rotation |
| Andrew Moran | Attacking midfield, right, left and centre | £14m listed value; contract to 30 June 2027 | Versatile attacking development |
Values and contract dates in the table are figures listed by the cited FM24 guide, not independently verified current values or contract terms. The available evidence does not establish comparable attribute or potential-ability ratings, so the most useful distinction is how each player can fit into a save.

Sammie Szmodics: build your attack around his central role
Szmodics is the clearest choice if your first priority is a central attacking focal point. The FM24 guide lists him as an attacking midfielder in the centre, making him the most direct fit of these three for a plan built around a central creator or scorer.
There’s also a strong real-season reason to make him the headline pick: Blackburn Rovers Football and Athletic Limited’s accounts for the year ended 30 June 2024 describe Szmodics as the Championship’s leading marksman, with 27 league goals in 2023/24. That is evidence of his real-world output in that season—not proof of a particular FM24 attribute profile or a promise he will reproduce that tally in your save.
John Buckley: give the middle of the pitch a flexible foundation
Buckley’s listed defensive-midfielder and central attacking-midfielder positions offer a different kind of build-around option. He can be considered for a central pairing or as part of a rotation plan where you want a player who can cover more than one job through the middle.
That flexibility makes him the most natural pick here for central balance rather than a single attacking role. The cited guide supports those listed positions, but does not establish a guaranteed development ceiling or justify calling him a wonderkid.

Andrew Moran: develop an attacker across several lanes
Moran is listed as AM RLC: attacking midfield on the right, left and through the centre. That gives you a practical development route if you want to build a young attacking player’s minutes across more than one lane as the save evolves.
His listed positional range is the relevant reason to choose him; the source material does not verify exact attributes or potential ability. Consider him for versatility and a longer-term role in your attack, rather than treating an unsupported rating or projected ceiling as fact.

How should you choose between the three?
- Need an attacking centerpiece now? Szmodics has the clearest case: a central attacking role in the FM24 guide, alongside his documented 27-goal Championship season in 2023/24.
- Want options in central midfield? Buckley’s listed defensive and attacking midfield roles make him the natural choice for a flexible central plan.
- Prefer to spread attacking minutes across positions? Moran’s right, left and central attacking-midfield listings support a multi-role development plan.
These are role-based recommendations, not a numeric ranking. The cited sources do not provide reliable, comparable FM24 attributes or potential-ability figures for all three, and the database you select can affect player data.
