Blueprint and Brainstorm can be exceptional when they have a strong effect to copy; Cavendish and Card Sharp offer more straightforward multipliers; and cards such as Baron, Mime, and Hanging Chad shine when your deck and scoring setup support them. The right pick depends on your goal, your current lineup, and whether it helps you survive the next Blind.
How to judge the best Jokers for your run
A useful ranking is about practical value, not just a Joker’s theoretical ceiling. Before buying or keeping one, ask whether it scores now, whether it can scale into later Antes, how much setup it needs, what it costs in money or hand resources, and whether it fits the Jokers and cards you already have.

- Immediate help: If the next Blind is a threat, a dormant Joker with a high future ceiling may be worse than one that improves your score right away.
- Scaling: A Joker that grows as you play can become more valuable over time, provided the run naturally supports its growth condition.
- Setup and opportunity cost: Consider the deck changes, consumables, hand size, or other resources needed to make the Joker work.
- Economy: An economy Joker can be valuable early because extra money can fund packs, rerolls, and later scoring options.
- Fit: Judge a Joker alongside your current lineup and deck, not as an isolated card.
Balatro Calculator’s July 2026 ranking focuses on decisions for reaching Ante 8 and playing at higher stakes. BalatroLab’s June 2026 list presents a broader ranking of 150 Jokers, based on versatility and scoring ceiling. These are different editorial approaches, not interchangeable tiers or official rankings: Balatro Calculator’s Ante 8 and Gold Stake guide and BalatroLab’s Joker tier list.
Strong general-purpose picks
Blueprint and Brainstorm
These Jokers copy another effect, so their value depends on having a strong compatible target. They can be outstanding when your lineup already contains an effect worth copying, but they are less compelling without one. Brainstorm’s leftmost-position constraint also makes Joker order part of the decision: arrange the lineup so its copied effect is the one you want.

Cavendish and Card Sharp
These are useful examples of comparatively low-setup multipliers. They can provide a simpler scoring boost than a build that requires substantial deck shaping or a particular sequence of synergies.
Powerful Jokers that need the right synergy
Hanging Chad
Hanging Chad’s extra triggers can amplify the first card you play. Its value therefore depends on what that card does: consider its enhancement, seal, and interactions such as Photograph rather than judging Hanging Chad in isolation.
Baron and Mime
Think of Baron and Mime as parts of a build, not automatic purchases. Their high ceiling depends on a shell built around held Kings, Steel cards, and retrigger support. Without those pieces, the headline potential may not translate into useful scoring.

Reliable workhorses and scaling engines
Abstract Joker, Green Joker, Ride the Bus, Supernova, Fortune Teller, Square Joker, and Stuntman can all carry a run in the right circumstances. They are less universally flexible than the standout copying or multiplier options, and their value can be affected by slower scaling, reset risk, or drawbacks.
Account for Stuntman’s tradeoff
BalatroLab identifies Stuntman as a possible build-around core and notes its large chip contribution alongside a hand-size cost. That tradeoff can be worthwhile when chips are what the run needs, but the reduced hand size must also suit your plan.
Let scaling follow your normal play
Hologram and Constellation are examples of scaling engines that benefit when the run is already doing the actions that grow them. A growth effect is most useful when you can advance it without sacrificing the immediate needs of the run.

When a conditional Joker is worth buying
Jokers tied to a suit, rank, hand, or consumable payoff make the most sense when your deck already meets the condition or the Joker closes an immediate scoring gap. Buying one late without the relevant setup can leave too little time—or too few resources—for it to contribute.
- Check whether the condition is already present in your deck or current lineup.
- Compare the Joker’s immediate contribution with what the next Blind requires.
- Account for the money, deck changes, and hand resources needed to activate or scale it.
- Choose the conditional payoff only when its fit outweighs the value of a more flexible option.
Which Jokers are best for Ante 8 and higher stakes?
There is no universal winner for either goal. For an Ante 8 attempt, prioritize what helps the run reach the finish: a strong copying target, an accessible multiplier, a synergy package your deck can actually support, or an economy effect early enough to finance future options. At higher stakes, the same decision becomes more sensitive to immediate survival, setup costs, and the lineup’s weaknesses. Balatro Calculator’s July 29, 2026 guide is specifically framed around Ante 8 and higher-stake decisions; its tiers should be read in that context rather than as a universal ranking.

The published guides do not use one shared version label. Pocket Gamer says its Joker list was updated June 15, 2026 for Version 1.3, while Balatro Calculator describes its balance scope as 1.0.1f in its July 29, 2026 article. Those labels differ, so they do not establish one current build across platforms or editions.
Rank #4
- 150 Jokers, each with their own unique abilities.
- 15 Decks with distinct modifiers to choose from for each run.
- 5 potential variants of each Joker which add further abilities.
- 22 Tarot cards variants that can enhance your regular playing cards.
- 11 Planet cards that help level up your possible poker hands.
PC Gamer reported on September 16, 2026 that developer LocalThunk was working on update 1.1 without committing to a launch window. The report mentioned at least four teased Jokers; that is planned content, not evidence that they were released in the live game. For context, see Pocket Gamer’s dated list and PC Gamer’s September 2026 update report.
These rankings are guide assessments, not official balance documentation or controlled comparisons of win rates. Treat them as decision aids: your deck, stake, current Blind, and available alternatives determine whether a Joker is strong in your run.
