For PC shooters released in 2025, three strong candidates serve very different preferences: Battlefield 6 for large-scale multiplayer and PC customization, DOOM: The Dark Ages for a focused campaign, and Borderlands 4 for cooperative role-playing shooting. This is a shortlist by play style and the PC details established in the cited sources—not a universal ranking or a claim of hands-on testing.
How to choose among these PC shooters
Start with the kind of session you want: large matches and community-made modes, a campaign built around solo action, or co-op with role-playing progression. For PC readiness, the available evidence is uneven: Bethesda publishes detailed system requirements for DOOM: The Dark Ages, while EA describes PC features for Battlefield 6. The cited roundup establishes Borderlands 4 as a PC-available co-op RPG shooter but does not provide its hardware requirements.

Battlefield 6: large matches and PC customization
Battlefield 6 is the pick here for players who want large-scale squad multiplayer, with Portal adding creator and community experiences. In an August 28, 2025 PC feature article, EA describes ultrawide display support, PC graphics technologies, Portal creation tools, and Steam support. EA also says the game has “600+ customization options,” including settings such as HDR, HUD scaling, camera settings, and streamer mode; that figure is EA’s own feature-count claim, not an independently audited statistic. Read EA’s Battlefield 6 PC feature overview.
Choose it if the draw is varied multiplayer and the ability to shape or explore community-made modes. The cited PC article highlights features rather than publishing system requirements, so check the game’s current store listing or official requirements before purchase if your hardware is a concern.

DOOM: The Dark Ages: campaign action, with a demanding graphics requirement
DOOM: The Dark Ages launched for Windows PC on May 15, 2025. Bethesda’s pre-launch checklist lists PC configurations for three performance targets and specifies a ray-tracing-capable GPU even at minimum settings. Check the GPU, memory, operating system, and available SSD space against the relevant row before buying. See Bethesda’s launch checklist and PC specifications.
| Bethesda configuration | Target listed by Bethesda | Operating system | Graphics | Memory | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | 1080p / 60 FPS / Low | Windows 10/11 64-bit | Ray-tracing-capable NVIDIA or AMD GPU, 8 GB dedicated VRAM or better | 16 GB RAM | NVMe SSD, 100 GB available |
| Recommended | 1440p / 60 FPS / High | Windows 10/11 64-bit | Ray-tracing-capable GPU, 10 GB dedicated VRAM or better | 32 GB RAM | NVMe SSD, 100 GB available |
| Ultra 4K | Not stated in the checklist excerpt | Not stated in the checklist excerpt | Ray-tracing-capable GPU, 16 GB dedicated VRAM or better | 32 GB RAM | NVMe SSD, 100 GB available |
The published minimum is not a no-ray-tracing fallback: Bethesda requires ray-tracing-capable graphics hardware for the game. If your current drive is not NVMe or lacks the stated 100 GB of available space, storage is a requirement to address; first check the drive and free space you already have. The listed storage requirement alone does not make a new SSD a universal upgrade recommendation.

Borderlands 4: cooperative role-playing shooting
Borderlands 4 fits players looking for a cooperative shooter with role-playing elements rather than a campaign-first solo experience or large-match multiplayer. The GameSpot roundup identifies it as PC-available and describes it in that co-op/RPG lane. The cited material does not give its PC system requirements, so verify current hardware specifications with the game’s official listing before purchase rather than assuming it will run on a particular setup. See GameSpot’s 2025 shooter roundup.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which one should you pick?
- Choose Battlefield 6 if large squad matches, PC-specific options, and Portal’s community-created experiences are the priority.
- Choose DOOM: The Dark Ages if you want campaign-centered action and your PC meets Bethesda’s ray-tracing, memory, and storage requirements.
- Choose Borderlands 4 if cooperative role-playing shooting is the main attraction, and confirm its current PC requirements separately.
These games occupy different niches, so the useful question is less which one is objectively “best” and more which kind of shooter you want to play—and, for DOOM in particular, whether your PC meets the published specification.
