Only the first change is explicitly recommended by ASUS for battery life; the others are settings to experiment with, not guaranteed savings. Each trades some performance, visual quality, or effects for lower power use.
1. Switch from Turbo to Performance or Silent
Start with the game’s actual performance needs. ASUS lists Silent at 10W, Performance at 15W, and Turbo at 25W, rising to 30W when the Ally X is connected to AC power. The modes are designed to balance performance and power use, and ASUS recommends moving from Turbo to Performance or Silent when the game allows it. Lower power can mean lower performance, so check that the game still feels smooth enough for you.
Armoury Crate SE is the Ally’s control surface for performance options. ASUS’s support documentation covers the Ally X (2024) RC72LA, but menus can change with software updates; confirm the current labels on your device. See ASUS’s battery-life advice and the Armoury Crate SE support documentation.
2. Lower brightness and display demands
Reduce screen brightness to the lowest level that remains comfortable in your lighting. You can also try a lower resolution if the game remains clear enough on the Ally X’s display. These are general PC-handheld adjustments, not changes for which the cited ASUS material gives a specific Ally X battery saving. Compare them in the games you play rather than expecting a fixed number of extra minutes.

3. Cap the frame rate
If a game is rendering more frames than you need, try a lower frame-rate cap in the game’s graphics settings or its available control software. A cap can reduce workload, but it also makes motion less fluid; the best balance depends on the game and your preference. No particular cap or runtime improvement is established for the Ally X here.
4. Turn off lighting you do not need
Disable optional controller or other device lighting if you are willing to play without it. Treat this as a small setting to test alongside the larger changes, not a guaranteed battery-life fix: ASUS’s cited Ally X material does not quantify the effect of lighting.

What ASUS’s runtime figures do—and do not—tell you
ASUS advertises more than 2.7 hours for heavy AAA gaming and 14.5 hours for Netflix video playback on the Ally X. These are manufacturer claims for different workloads, not a promise of gaming time for every player or game. The Ally X (2024), model RC72LA, has an 80Wh battery; actual play time depends on settings and workload. See the ROG Ally X product page and ASUS Canada’s product information.

ASUS also discusses Modern Standby Assistant and Extreme Standby Mode as ways to address power use while the device is idle or in standby. Those features concern standby behavior; they do not extend active gameplay runtime. Battery Care Mode limits charging to 80% to reduce battery wear. That may help long-term battery health, but it does not add runtime to a single charge—instead, a session starts with less than a full charge. Look for these options in Armoury Crate SE and verify the current menu names on your software version.
