Auntie Ethel’s hag potions are a mixed collection: two workshop bottles offer useful benefits, while most inflict a drawback, disruption, or delayed penalty. Heart of Stone grants poison resistance and A Mother’s Loathing grants Bite, both until your next long rest. Be especially wary of Broken Promises: its temporary Strength boost is followed by an indefinite Strength penalty.
Where to find Auntie Ethel’s hag potions
The main collection is in the Acrid Workshop at the end of the Overgrown Tunnel in Act One. Some of the same named potions also appear in Ethel’s lair beneath the Blushing Mermaid in Act Three. Not every related potion comes from those caches: Boon of the Hag is listed as Auntie Ethel’s Special Brew, but is not found in either lair. The list below follows the currently documented game-reference descriptions; some bottles may have additional effects or interactions beyond their short descriptions.

Which potions are useful to drink?
Heart of Stone
This is the straightforward defensive option: it grants poison resistance until your next long rest. It is one of the two workshop potions identified as solely beneficial.
A Mother’s Loathing
This grants the Bite action until your next long rest. It can provide an attack option, but its bite is weaker than the one available through Wild Shape.

Broken Promises
The +2 Strength can look attractive for a short-term challenge, but drinking it commits you to a lasting cost: after your next long rest, Strength falls by 1 indefinitely. Consider that penalty before using it, particularly on a character who relies on Strength.
Can you throw the hag potions at enemies?
No. Although the potions can be thrown, throwing one does not apply its listed effect to a target. Their documented effects are associated with drinking them, so do not use them as if they were effect-delivering thrown weapons.

How to choose
- Want a temporary defensive benefit? Heart of Stone grants poison resistance until long rest.
- Want an extra attack option? A Mother’s Loathing grants Bite until long rest, though it is weaker than Wild Shape’s bite.
- Considering a Strength boost? Broken Promises gives +2 Strength only until the next long rest, then imposes an indefinite -1 Strength penalty.
- For the remaining bottles, check their listed durations and consequences carefully; effects range from brief combat disruption to damage or a penalty that persists indefinitely.
