When does Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement come out?
The current official release year is 2027, with no specific day or month announced. The June 2025 reveal originally targeted 2026, but later official publisher and PlayStation materials updated the timing to 2027. The current PlayStation Store listing also gives 2027. What platforms will it be on?
Official launch platforms are PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. On PC, the publisher lists Steam and the Epic Games Store. 505 Games also lists Xbox Game Pass. Its platform support page and store links provide the publisher’s platform information.
The PlayStation Store identifies the PS5 version as a one-player, offline-enabled game with DualSense vibration support. That listing does not establish a price or physical edition; check the relevant official storefront for updated purchase details.

What is the story about?
The game takes place in 16th-century England, where a mysterious castle and its demonic forces threaten the land. Leo and Alex are drawn together to confront Demon Lord Elias. The publisher describes it as a 2.5D gothic action RPG, continuing the series’ blend of side-scrolling action and role-playing elements. The June 4, 2025 PlayStation Blog reveal introduced it as an entirely new 2.5D side-scrolling action RPG.
How does the announced gameplay work?
Publisher descriptions say players can control two heroes. One character is under direct control while the companion assists in combat, and players can switch between them. Other announced systems include a large map, changing day-and-night conditions, combat abilities, crafting, cooking, equipment, and visually distinct armor. The publisher calls its combat system the “Epiphany Combat System.”

Do you need to play Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night first?
No. The official PlayStation Store description says new players can jump into The Scarlet Engagement without prior knowledge. It calls the game an early chapter in the Bloodstained universe, while suggesting longtime fans may find connections. Playing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is optional background, not a prerequisite.

Is it a sequel or a prequel?
Official store copy describes The Scarlet Engagement as an early chapter in the Bloodstained universe, but does not give a more precise chronological relationship to Ritual of the Night.
