Baldur’s Gate 3’s maintained spell list includes cantrips and ordinary spells from levels 1 through 6, plus separate entries for special quest, NPC-only, and item-granted spells. Below is the full roster grouped by the level shown in the BG3 Wiki’s community-maintained reference, followed by the special categories and an explanation of how class access and spell slots work.
How to read the spell list
The list below follows the BG3 Wiki’s maintained “List of all spells” reference, last edited 29 January 2026. It is a community-maintained roster, not an official Larian spell list. Spelling follows that reference, including “Armour,” “Colour,” and “Favour.”
Levels 0–6 are the ordinary spell levels presented in the roster. The special level 9 or quest entries, NPC-only spells, and item-granted spells are shown separately because they do not all function like spells a player character chooses from a class list. Some item-granted spells also appear in the ordinary roster through another way of acquiring them.
Cantrips (level 0)
Cantrips usually cost no spell slot and cannot be upcast. Most damaging cantrips scale with character level.
#1 Best Overall
- Online multiplayer for up to four players - allows you to combine your forces in combat, and split your party to follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together… or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it
- Origin Character - offer a hand-crafted experience, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the entire narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or many other outcomes
- Evolved turn-based combat - based on the D&D 5e ruleset. Team-based initiative, advantage & disadvantage, and roll modifiers join combat cameras, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategy and foresight
- Define the future of the Forgotten Realms - through your choices, and the roll of the dice. No matter who you play, or what you roll, the world and its inhabitants will react to your story
- Player-initiated turn-based mode - allows you to pause the world around you at any time even outside of combat. Whether you see an opportunity for a tactical advantage before combat begins, want to pull off a heist with pin-point precision, or need to escape a fiendish trap. Split your party, prepare ambushes, sneak in the darkness -- create your own luck!

How spell access differs by class
BG3’s class lists overlap, but a spell’s availability depends on its class or subclass list and on how the character acquires it. The BG3 Wiki’s “Spells” mechanics reference summarizes the main distinctions below; individual spells and items can have special acquisition rules.
Prepared casters and spellbooks
- Cleric, Druid, and Paladin: These classes gain access to their available class spells as they level, then choose which to prepare.
- Wizard: A Wizard uses a spellbook and can learn spells from scrolls, as well as selecting which learned spells to prepare.
Classes that select learned spells
Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, Ranger, Eldritch Knight, and Arcane Trickster generally choose a selection of learned spells as they progress. Their spell options and progression differ by class and subclass.

Spell slots, scrolls, and recovery
Cantrips are level 0 and generally cast at will. Most leveled spells require a spell slot of the spell’s level or higher; using a higher-level slot is called upcasting. Scroll casting consumes the scroll, while most item-granted spells use the item’s own effect instead of a spell slot.
Most spell slots recover on a long rest. Warlocks use Pact Magic: their slots are at the highest level they can currently cast and recover on a short rest. A Warlock can cast a spell with a lower listed level using that available slot level.
Patch 8 and the roster’s version context
Larian Studios’ official Patch 8 announcement, published 15 April 2025, calls Patch 8 the last game patch to introduce new content: “Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content.” That statement leaves room for minor bug fixes; it is not a promise that no further fixes will occur. Patch 8 added 12 subclasses, one for each of the existing playable classes: Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard.
