What Destiny 2 error code OLIVE means
Bungie describes Destiny error codes generally as indicators of different kinds of disconnection that help Bungie, platform partners, and players track connectivity problems. Its general documentation does not assign OLIVE one definitive cause. Bungie’s disconnected-from-Destiny guidance therefore supports treating OLIVE as a connection-related error, not as proof of a particular fault.
In one Bungie Help forum response, support said repeated OLIVE errors during the background maintenance referenced in that report were likely related to the maintenance and should resolve when it ended. That was a case-specific explanation, not a diagnosis for every OLIVE error. Read the OLIVE support response.
Fix OLIVE in this order
1. Retry the activity
If OLIVE appeared once, try the activity again and resume what you were doing. This is Bungie’s first OLIVE-specific recommendation.

2. Exit and relaunch Destiny
If OLIVE returns, fully exit Destiny and relaunch the game. Bungie gives this as the next OLIVE-specific step; its general disconnect guidance also recommends closing and restarting the application for a single disconnect.
3. Check for maintenance or service issues
Before changing your setup, check Bungie’s current service notices. Bungie advises checking for known outages before troubleshooting and points players to Bungie Help and @BungieHelp for updates. Destiny 2 server errors can have different causes, and the game may be offline; an OLIVE code alone does not establish that an outage is happening. See Bungie’s Destiny 2 server-issues guidance.

4. On console, restart and clear the game cache if errors recur
For an individual repeat console report, Bungie support recommended restarting Destiny and clearing the console’s game cache. Cache-clearing steps vary by platform, so follow the instructions for your specific console rather than applying a button sequence intended for another system. See the console OLIVE support reply.
5. If you use Wi-Fi, try a wired connection
Bungie recommends wired Ethernet because Wi-Fi can have signal-strength and stability problems. If your setup allows it, connect the console or PC to your router with an Ethernet cable and see whether the disconnects continue. This is an optional troubleshooting step, not an OLIVE-specific cure, and it will not resolve a service outage or every other cause. If disconnects continue
If you keep disconnecting or see several different error codes, move from the quick OLIVE-specific steps to broader network checks. Bungie’s general guidance suggests power-cycling network hardware, noting when errors occur, and contacting your internet service provider about connection stability, traffic, or packet loss when appropriate. Bungie also advises quitting streaming programs that use the connection during play. Avoid advanced router changes as your first response to a single OLIVE event; use Bungie’s disconnect troubleshooting steps if problems persist.
