For the Hunter’s Memento and the True Hunter achievement, complete 230 required entries on Classic Mode or 231 on Steel Soul, then speak with Nuu. Those are the reward requirements—not the full collection totals of 236 and 237 obtainable entries, respectively.
How to get the Hunter’s Journal
The Hunter’s Journal page identifies Nuu, in the Halfway Home in Greymoor, as the character who gives you the Journal. A route described in a September 2025 guide is to obtain the Drifter’s Cloak from the Seamstress, reach Greymoor, wrap around the left side of the Halfway Home’s large locked building, and climb to the attic to find Nuu. The guide says foes defeated before you receive the Journal are counted retroactively; this detail comes from the guide, not developer documentation. How entries become complete
Most entries require defeating a particular number of a creature. Once you meet that entry’s threshold, the Journal records it as complete and reveals additional notes from Hornet, including lore and combat details. Thresholds vary: the listed examples are 25 Mossgrubs, one Skull Tyrant, and 80 Muckmaggots. Check the individual entry rather than assuming one kill is enough. Not every record is earned by farming kills. Void Tendrils, for example, is obtained by inspecting a lore tablet in Weavenest Absolom; some other records involve boss kills or challenges. The Journal page describes extra notes for completed entries, while the guide says a completed entry has a distinct border. Hunter’s Journal; TheGamer’s guide.

How many entries you need for the reward
| Goal or mode | Entries | What the count means |
|---|---|---|
| Hunter’s Memento and True Hunter, Classic Mode | 230 | Entries required for the reward |
| Hunter’s Memento and True Hunter, Steel Soul | 231 | Entries required for the reward; Steel Soul’s extra requirement is Summoned Saviour |
| All obtainable entries, Classic Mode | 236 | Full obtainable collection, not the reward threshold |
| All obtainable entries, Steel Soul Mode | 237 | Full obtainable collection, not the reward threshold |
The Hunter’s Memento page gives the 230/231 reward requirements, while the Journal page gives the 236/237 collection totals. The full totals include entries that are not needed for the Memento or True Hunter. Examples identified as unnecessary for that reward include Flintbeetle, Palestag, Shakra, Garmond and Zaza, Lost Garmond, and Lost Lace. You can pursue these if your goal is every obtainable record, but they are not part of the stated reward requirement. Hunter’s Memento; Hunter’s Journal.
Track progress with Farsight
Construct Farsight to see how many creatures you have encountered and how many are required to complete the Journal. It also adds grey slots for unencountered enemies needed for the Hunter’s Memento. Use those slots to spot missing records, then check each record’s own requirement; a visible entry is not necessarily complete until its threshold or special condition is met. Entries that are easy to miss
The following route-specific tips come from TheGamer’s September 2025 guide and have not been independently verified here. Treat them as practical pointers, and check the current game if an encounter behaves differently.
- Clear memory sequences before leaving them. The guide says the game finalizes requirements for enemies unique to sequences such as Verdania and Coral Tower when you exit after the boss. It also reports later opportunities for Craw variants at Craw Lake and for Grom and Gromling in the upper or eastern Wormways.
- Finish Wraith thresholds while in The Mist. The guide flags this route as easy to leave behind.
- Surface Squirrm in the Blasted Steps. Use the Needolin in the sandy pit, according to the guide.
- Inspect the lore tablet for Void Tendrils. This entry uses an interaction rather than a kill threshold.
- Prioritize Shardillard on the first encounter. The guide says it may not respawn.
- Farm kill thresholds efficiently. The guide suggests nearby enemy clusters or rooms with multiple spawns.

What Nuu’s request and the Memento reward
The Journal page lists Keen Hunter as the achievement for granting Nuu’s wish, and True Hunter for receiving the Hunter’s Memento. The guide reports that Nuu’s Bugs of Pharloom request asks for 100 entries and grants an early memento. That is an intermediate milestone; it does not replace the 230-entry Classic or 231-entry Steel Soul requirement for the Hunter’s Memento tied to True Hunter. The Memento is displayed in Bellhome.
