You can edit the avatar shown on your PlayStation profile, but buying avatar content is a separate matter: PlayStation’s support guide explains how to edit profile information, while its current guidance does not document a PS5-console purchase route for standalone avatars. Some PlayStation Store games and editions explicitly include avatars. Check the official listing for the exact item, platform, region, and contents before you pay.
How avatar purchases work on PS5
PlayStation describes an avatar as profile information you can edit through Account Management > Profile > Edit. That support page does not explain how to buy avatars on a PS5 console. A third-party PSPrices guide says the PS5 Store has no dedicated avatar section, but that interface detail is not confirmed by the official support information and may change.
In practice, look for an official Store listing that explicitly says it includes avatars. An avatar may be included with a game or a specific edition rather than sold as a standalone item. Do not assume an avatar is included based on a game’s title, artwork, or edition name alone.
Check the listing before you buy
- Find the official PlayStation Store listing. Open the page for the game, add-on, or edition you are considering, and read its description for explicit avatar contents.
- Confirm platform and edition. Check that the item includes the PS4 or PS5 version you need, and verify that you are viewing the right edition. PlayStation advises shoppers to check Store descriptions for edition and platform requirements.
- Check your region and the full contents. Store availability and included content may vary by account region and can change. Consider whether you want the game as well as its avatars, and compare the full bundle contents and total price.
- Buy through an available PlayStation Store channel. PlayStation says purchases can be made online, in the PlayStation App, or on a console.
- After purchase, edit your profile avatar. Use Account Management > Profile > Edit to manage profile information. PlayStation’s support page does not provide a current, detailed PS5 menu sequence for selecting a newly purchased avatar, so the exact on-console steps are not established here.

Paying with a PlayStation Store gift card
A PlayStation Store gift card adds general wallet funds that can be used for Store purchases; it is not a voucher for a particular avatar and does not guarantee that the avatar you want is available. Check that the card’s region and currency are compatible with your account. PlayStation says wallet funds are spent first and that funds added to a wallet cannot be refunded.

Purchases on a child account
A family manager sets a child account’s spending limit, and child accounts use the family manager’s wallet. Age ratings and family purchase settings may also affect whether a particular item can be bought. Check the account’s spending limit and the Store listing before checkout.
