Battlefield 6’s campaign is single-player only. You can direct the AI squadmates who fight alongside you, but you cannot bring a friend into the story missions. To play with friends, choose one of the separate multiplayer modes; Battlefield Portal offers custom experiences, not a documented co-op version of the campaign.
Can you play the Battlefield 6 campaign in co-op?
No. EA Help identifies the Campaign as Battlefield 6’s single-player mode. EA’s campaign overview describes Dagger 1-3 as your squad, whose members you can command during missions—not additional human players. There is no campaign co-op option described in EA’s official mode information.
That distinction matters: the campaign and multiplayer share the game’s setting, but they are separate ways to play. Buying the game or choosing a different edition does not add co-op to the story campaign.
What does squad control let you do?
You play as members of Dagger 1-3, an elite Marine Raiders unit. In combat, you can direct squadmates to engage enemies and use their abilities to reposition, snipe, flank, or throw grenades. You can also take the role of different squad members.

These commands add tactical choices to a solo campaign. They do not let another player control a squadmate. EA’s campaign overview describes the story and squad mechanics in Your first look at Battlefield 6’s Single Player Campaign.
How can you play with friends instead?
Choose a multiplayer mode if you want to join other players. EA lists these as separate from the Campaign:

These are multiplayer options, not cooperative story missions. The right choice depends on whether you want a large-scale objective mode, a smaller team fight, or another competitive format. EA’s Battlefield 6 game-mode guide separates Campaign and Multiplayer and describes Portal as a custom-mode tool.
Does Battlefield Portal add campaign co-op?
Portal lets players modify or create custom modes. EA’s official descriptions do not say that it reproduces the main Battlefield 6 story campaign as a co-op experience, so it should not be treated as a workaround for playing campaign missions with a friend.

Platforms and editions
EA’s October 10, 2025 launch announcement listed Battlefield 6 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and described Standard and Phantom editions at launch. Those are launch details, not a guarantee of current availability. Check the retailer’s current listing for your platform and confirm whether the copy is physical or digital before buying. Neither an edition choice nor a purchase changes the campaign’s single-player format.
