Raw Fury credited creator Tonda Ros and his team, and described the game as the result of eight years of development. That duration is the publisher’s account, not an independently measured figure. The cited coverage does not establish a technical audit of the game’s development, so the statement should be understood as what Raw Fury said rather than outside verification of every tool or workflow used.
Why did Blue Prince become the Indie Game Awards’ Game of the Year?
The Indie Game Awards removed Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from both Game of the Year and Best Debut after the awards organization said Sandfall Interactive had confirmed generative AI use during development. Blue Prince became the replacement Game of the Year winner, and Sorry We’re Closed received Best Debut. PC Gamer reported the organization’s decision.

PC Gamer attributed the eligibility position to Mike Towndrow of the Indie Game Awards nomination committee, who said the organization had a “hard stance against gen AI in videogames.” The removal concerned that ceremony’s rules and awards; it should not be read as a finding about every game’s production process or as a change to awards presented by other organizations.
Did the decision change Clair Obscur’s results at other awards?
No. The Indie Game Awards decision applied to that awards program. A separate GDC 2026 awards report lists Blue Prince as the winner of Best Design and Innovation and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as Game of the Year. Those are separate results from a separate ceremony.

What is Blue Prince?
GameSpot described Blue Prince as a roguelike puzzle game in which players search for a hidden 46th room in a mansion with a changing layout. Its December 2025 report listed Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC as platforms, and said Ros had ruled out DLC or expansions.
