Apple’s U.S. App Store highlights several iPhone options across puzzles, simulation, sports, arcade and action; for Android, the available source here supports one broad mini-game collection, not every iPhone recommendation.
Start with offline play, not the genre
Apple’s U.S. App Store has a “Games for Long Trips” collection framed around situations where internet may be unavailable. Apple also labels its separate “The Best Offline Games” collection “No internet required.” The collections overlap, but inclusion is a useful lead rather than a guarantee that every feature, mode, or later update works offline.
Apple’s App Store editorial page says, “Whether you’re taking a train, plane, or automobile, you may find yourself in a spot without internet.” The recommendations below reflect Apple’s iPhone editorial picks, not a verified Android shortlist. Offline claims are based on store or editorial copy; they are not independent tests of each title. Before flying, download the game and any large assets while connected, then open it and try the mode you intend to play.
iPhone picks by mood and play style
For word puzzles: Wordscapes
Apple includes Wordscapes in both its long-trip and offline collections. It is the clearest choice here if you want word and crossword-style puzzle play.

For a longer-running simulation: Good Pizza, Great Pizza
This restaurant simulation appears in both Apple collections. Its inclusion does not establish that progression or every feature remains available offline, so check the current listing and try it before departure.
For an unusual puzzle: Blackbox
Apple features Blackbox in both collections. Its “play without touch” positioning offers a different kind of puzzle experience, but that description alone does not establish accessibility suitability.

For short mechanical puzzles: Automatoys
Automatoys is included in both Apple collections and is a source-supported option to consider for brief puzzle sessions.
For football: Retro Bowl
Apple lists Retro Bowl in both collections, making it the sports pick in this group.

For quick arcade rounds: Crossy Road
Crossy Road also appears in both Apple collections. Consider it if you want an arcade option rather than a puzzle or simulation.
For action: Vampire Survivors
Apple includes Vampire Survivors in both collections. It provides an action-oriented alternative to the quieter picks.

For a calmer puzzle: KAMI 2
KAMI 2 is included in Apple’s offline collection. It is another puzzle option, though it is not listed in the cited long-trip collection.

Build a small mix for the flight
Rather than relying on one game for the entire journey, choose a few that suit different moods: a repeatable puzzle, a sports or simulation option, and a quick arcade or action game. That is a practical way to diversify your choices, not a claim that one combination is best for everyone. Store descriptions and editorial selections do not establish storage requirements, battery use, pause behavior, current prices, ads, or the availability of every feature offline. Check those details on each current store listing.
- While connected, download the games you plan to play and any available game assets.
- Open each game before leaving and try the intended mode with connectivity disabled, if practical. This check can reveal setup or online-only requirements; it is not a guarantee that all later features work offline.
- Follow crew instructions and keep the phone in airplane mode or with cellular disabled. The FAA says Wi-Fi is permitted only when the aircraft has installed Wi-Fi and the airline allows its use. See the FAA’s portable-electronics guidance.
Taking a power bank on the plane
If you bring a power bank for extended phone use, FAA passenger guidance says spare lithium-ion batteries, including power banks, must be in carry-on baggage. The FAA’s current guidance, accessed in 2026, allows spare batteries from 0–100 Wh, requires airline approval for 101–160 Wh, and forbids batteries above 160 Wh. Airlines may set stricter limits, so check your carrier’s current rules and the battery’s watt-hour rating before travel. See the FAA’s lithium-battery guidance.
