Azurewrath-centered Twisting Blades and Penetrating Shot were discussed as promising options, but that was community theorycrafting—not a tested ranking. Season 9, “Sins of the Horadrim,” has ended, so any build advice should also specify whether it reflects the July 1, 2025 launch or later 2.3-series patches.
What was the best Rogue build in Season 9?
The available evidence does not establish a universal winner. A Season 9 player discussion speculated that Azurewrath could support strong Twisting Blades and Penetrating Shot builds, but it did not provide a conclusive performance test or final ranking. Treat those skills as candidates to investigate, not proof that either was the season’s top build. Read the Season 9 Rogue discussion.

Blizzard’s patch notes document game changes, not build rankings. They do not establish which Rogue setup was strongest for Pit pushing, boss fights, speed farming, leveling, or players without key gear. A recommendation should name the activity and progression stage it serves rather than claim to be best at everything.
Why the patch number matters
Blizzard named Season 9 “Sins of the Horadrim.” Patch 2.3.0 launched on July 1, 2025, and the official patch history also records version 2.3.3, dated August 13, 2025. Season 9 advice can therefore refer to different points in the season; a launch-era setup should not be presented as if it automatically reflects later balance changes. Blizzard’s Diablo IV patch history (2.3) and the Season 9 announcement provide the official season and patch context.

Rogue changes recorded in patch 2.3.1
Blizzard’s 2.3.1 notes increased two Rogue-related damage bonuses:
- Deathmask of Nirmitruq: the damage bonus increased from 70% to 100%.
- Breakneck Bandit’s Aspect: the damage range increased from 25–45% to 35–55%.
These are patch-note changes to individual effects, not measured results for a complete build. They do not show that a particular skill or gear combination was the season’s strongest. For the exact patch context, consult Blizzard’s 2.3 patch notes.

How to choose between the discussed candidates
Because there is no reliable final-patch comparison here, evaluate a build against the job you need it to do. The community discussion is a starting point for Azurewrath, Twisting Blades, and Penetrating Shot; it does not settle how the options compare on these criteria.
- Leveling: check whether the build works before its key Unique or other required gear is available.
- Speed farming: consider how quickly it clears ordinary encounters and how much movement or setup its rotation requires.
- Pit pushing: look for evidence about performance in difficult, sustained encounters rather than assuming a strong damage bonus guarantees high-tier clears.
- Bossing: compare single-target damage and how reliably the build can maintain its damage conditions.
- Survivability and execution: account for defensive needs, positioning, and how demanding the rotation is.
- Gear dependence: identify whether Azurewrath or another required item is essential, and whether the build has a workable alternative while gearing.
These are decision criteria, not established comparative results for the two candidates. The sources available do not provide measured Pit tiers, clear times, damage figures, or a final-patch ranking.
