Story Item books
The index’s Story Item examples include In Search of the Nightsong, Madeline’s Ledger, Necromancy of Thay, and On Antidotes. These are among the titles singled out by the wiki’s classification.
Legendary books
The separate Legendary examples include The Annals of Karsus and The Tharchiate Codex.

Alphabetical, author, and subject browsing
For a particular title, start with the alphabetical list. If you are exploring a theme or looking for books by a particular writer, use the index’s author and subject links instead.
What counts as a book?
The wiki defines books as readable items. Its Books index is distinct from its indexes for notes—including letters and maps—and slates, such as readable tablets and other carved material. So “all books” does not mean every piece of written or readable material in the game.
This distinction matters if you are trying to find a specific letter, map, or inscribed tablet: those belong in the neighboring indexes, not the Books list.
Do books affect quests or gameplay?
Some books provide lore about the world or characters. The wiki also notes that reading a book may start or update a quest, or trigger a cutscene. Those are possible effects, not a guarantee that every book changes gameplay; a book may primarily be there to read.

How many books are in Baldur’s Gate 3?
There is no verified definitive count of distinct in-game books established here. The BG3 Wiki category page reports 735 total category pages and displays 200 items on that page, but those are category and pagination figures—not a confirmed count of books in the game. The category number should not be used as the answer to how many books the game contains.

Is the Necromancy of Thay notebook the in-game book?
No. An officially licensed product called Baldur’s Gate 3: The Necromancy of Thay is a gridded notebook inspired by the in-game tome. The official product page describes it as blank; it does not reproduce the game’s text.
