Destiny 2 ranks first among the major Bungie-developed games covered here for the breadth of its combat and cooperative play, while the original Marathon trilogy remains the studio’s most historically distinctive work. This is an editorial ranking, not an official score: it weighs influence, world-building, gameplay and systems, originality, and how readily each game can be played and appreciated today.
“All” needs a qualification. The available records establish major entries from Bungie’s Marathon and Destiny eras, but do not verify a complete title-by-title gameography or the full Bungie-developed subset of Halo. Rather than imply an exhaustive list, this ranking covers the documented entries below; it does not treat later games in a franchise as Bungie-developed simply because they share its name.

How the ranking works
The games span different genres and generations, so a single measure—such as review scores, popularity, or present-day convenience—would be misleading. Historical influence and craft matter, but so does whether a new player can access and understand the game now. For Marathon, the original trilogy is grouped as one entry because the available information establishes the trilogy, not a complete title-by-title comparison.
1. Destiny 2
Best overall Bungie game for players seeking a large, evolving cooperative action game. Destiny 2 combines Bungie’s familiar emphasis on responsive shooting with a persistent science-fiction setting and team-based activities. Its changing structure gives it more to explore than a self-contained campaign, but also makes it the least stable entry in this ranking as a fixed historical object: what is available can change over time.

Why it ranks first
- Gameplay and systems: Its live structure gives Bungie room to develop activities and systems over time, rather than asking one campaign to carry the whole experience.
- World and continuity: It builds on the setting introduced by Destiny and has accumulated campaigns, destinations, and raids across multiple years.
- Accessibility today: It is the easiest entry here to approach as a current, actively maintained game, though its content history can make it difficult to know what remains available.
Bungie said on September 17, 2026, that it is beginning work to bring vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids back. That is work in progress, not confirmation that every removed activity is already playable again.
2. Destiny
The strongest starting point for understanding Bungie’s shift into shared-world action. Destiny launched on September 9, 2014, and established the setting and core premise that Destiny 2 continued. Its place in the ranking reflects that foundation, even though Destiny 2 is the more current expression of the series.
Rank #2
- Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories
Why it ranks here
- Influence within Bungie’s catalog: It marked the studio’s move from primarily standalone campaigns toward an ongoing, shared-world game.
- Craft and world-building: Its science-fiction setting gives the series an identity beyond its gunplay.
- Present-day access: The original game is less straightforward to recommend as a first stop than its successor. The available information does not establish a complete current-access picture for every version or activity.
3. The original Marathon trilogy
Bungie’s most historically distinctive documented work, and the essential pick for players interested in the studio’s earlier science-fiction ideas. The trilogy is important both as a body of work in its own right and because it provides the world for the newer Marathon. It is grouped here rather than split into individual rankings; the available information does not support a detailed, source-backed comparison among the three games.
Why it remains significant
- Originality: Its continued connection to a new game decades later shows the enduring value of the setting.
- Historical perspective: It lets players see Bungie’s earlier approach to science-fiction world-building before the Destiny era.
- Access: The available information does not establish the current availability or best way to play each trilogy entry, so readers should check the relevant platform and edition before choosing one.
4. Marathon (2026)
The most intriguing choice for players who want Bungie to take a different multiplayer direction. Bungie describes the 2026 Marathon as a PvP extraction shooter set on Tau Ceti IV. It takes place in the original trilogy’s world, but Bungie says it is “not a remake or direct sequel.” Its relationship to the classic games is therefore a shared setting, not a promise that the new game continues their story directly.

- From the makers of the acclaimed hit game Destiny, comes the much-anticipated sequel
- An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system
- Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion
- To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home
What affects its place in the ranking
- Originality: An extraction-shooter format is a distinct direction from Destiny’s shared-world action.
- Multiplayer design: Its central appeal depends on competitive runs and the choices players make within them, rather than a traditional solo campaign.
- Changing state: Bungie’s September 17, 2026 update said Marathon had not reached as many players as hoped and described plans to expand it toward a deeper survival experience. Those plans should not be mistaken for features already released.
Bungie announced a March 5, 2026 release on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S; its current FAQ lists those consoles and PC. In a May 14, 2026 update, Bungie discussed lessons around onboarding, matchmaking, endgame, and solo or duo play, as well as exploring PvE, PvP, and PvP-lite experiences. These are useful signals about the game’s direction, not a guarantee that every discussed mode or change is available.

- For the best current all-around experience: Start with Destiny 2, while checking what content is currently available.
- For the series’ original shared-world premise: Try Destiny, keeping in mind that it is an earlier and less straightforward entry point.
- For Bungie’s older science-fiction legacy: Look for the original Marathon trilogy, checking platform availability before buying or downloading.
- For competitive extraction play: Choose Marathon (2026), and judge it by its released state rather than by announced future plans.
What this ranking does not establish
This is a ranking of the major entries that can be responsibly described from the documented material, not a verified complete list of every Bungie-developed game. In particular, a listing for Halo: The Master Chief Collection does not by itself establish which individual Halo titles Bungie developed. The same material does not support a full title-by-title list of Bungie’s other historical releases. Review scores also cannot settle the order: the available aggregator information covers only selected titles and varies by platform.
