Revealed at Gamescom in 2025 with a CG teaser, it has since appeared in a 15-minute work-in-progress gameplay video. The game is still in early development: no release date or final platform list has been announced.
What is Black Myth: Zhong Kui?
Game Science describes Black Myth: Zhong Kui as a single-player action role-playing game inspired by Zhong Kui, a figure in Chinese folklore. The studio calls it the second entry in the Black Myth series. That makes it a new game in the same series, but it does not establish that its story is a direct continuation of Black Myth: Wukong.
The game was revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025. At the time, Game Science said the project was at a very early stage, with no in-game footage ready to show, so the announcement video was CG rather than gameplay. Game Science’s official teaser introduced the project; GameSpot’s contemporaneous report also covered the early reveal.
Has Game Science shown gameplay?
Yes. On August 20, 2026, Game Science published a 15-minute work-in-progress gameplay video. The studio says it offers an initial look at combat and selected story scenes, but stresses that development is ongoing and the final game may differ from what is shown. It is accurate to call this gameplay footage or a work-in-progress demo; the available information does not establish that the demo is playable by the public. The official Black Myth channel hosts the update and its development-status qualification.

Is there a Black Myth: Zhong Kui release date?
No release date or release window has been announced. In the FAQ published with the 2025 announcement, Game Science said it was too early to estimate when the game would be ready. The studio also said the story outline was not finished at that point, so a specific launch-year prediction would be speculation. Gematsu’s report reproduces the studio’s contemporaneous FAQ answers.
What platforms will it launch on?
Game Science’s announcement FAQ named PC and “all mainstream console platforms,” with final information to be confirmed before release. That is a broad platform plan, not a confirmed list of individual consoles or editions. No final platform SKUs have been announced in the sources available as of October 4, 2026. Is Zhong Kui a sequel to Black Myth: Wukong?
It is the second Black Myth game, but Game Science has not confirmed a direct story sequel to Wukong. The studio’s stated creative rationale points instead to a new hero and new directions in gameplay, visuals, technology, and storytelling. A message attributed to Game Science founder Feng Ji (also known as Yocar), reproduced on an unofficial introduction page, says the studio chose to pursue “New heroes, new gameplay, new visuals, new technology, new stories.” The same message says the Wukong story could return after proper preparation; it does not promise a sequel, DLC, or schedule. The page reproducing the message identifies itself as unofficial.
