In October 2025, reports showed Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 behind Battlefield 6 in two different measures: Steam concurrent users and Twitch viewers. Those were snapshots—not a count of everyone who played either beta across PC and consoles—and the Steam figures need an extra caveat because Call of Duty’s Steam count included other games.
Did Black Ops 7 beat Battlefield 6 in the beta?
No, not in the comparisons reported at the time. Insider Gaming’s October 2, 2025, report showed Battlefield 6 ahead at comparable early-access points on Steam and Twitch. A later October 6 report also gave Battlefield 6 the higher Steam beta peak, though the Call of Duty Steam figure was not exclusive to Black Ops 7.

“Two major platforms” needs a distinction: Steam is a PC game storefront and participation measure here, while Twitch is a streaming service whose numbers measure viewers, not players.

These are separate report snapshots, not figures to add together. Insider Gaming’s October 2 comparison was made at comparable early-access moments and was not presented as either game’s final beta peak. GameStar distinguished Black Ops 7’s closed beta from its open beta, which began October 5; it reported that the game’s Steam peak later approached 100,000.

How fair is a Steam comparison?
Steam figures can show how a game performed among Steam users, but they do not establish total participation across every platform or storefront. The October 6 Insider Gaming report specifically cautioned that the Call of Duty Steam count included Black Ops 6 and Warzone, making it an imperfect proxy for Black Ops 7 alone. It also noted that Call of Duty was available through other channels, including Battle.net, the Xbox PC app, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Beta stage and timing matter too. A closed-beta count, an early-access snapshot, and a later open-beta peak describe different windows of access and participation. That helps explain why the reports give different Black Ops 7 figures; the numbers should be read with each report’s phase and timestamp rather than treated as a single, directly interchangeable result.

No cited source provides verified combined beta participant totals across Steam, Battle.net, Xbox PC, PlayStation, and Xbox for both games. The available figures therefore support a comparison of reported metrics, not a definitive all-platform winner.

What the beta numbers can—and cannot—tell you
- Supported by the reports: Battlefield 6 led the cited October 2025 comparisons on Steam and Twitch, and also had the higher reported Steam beta peak.
- Not established: the exact number of unique people who participated across all platforms in either beta, or which game had more total players across every channel.
- Not a current-audience measure: these are historical beta snapshots and do not show either game’s present player population, sales, or long-term franchise health.
