In this context, “Java” can mean either the game edition or the Java runtime software needed to run it; those are related but different things.
What does “Java” mean when using TLauncher?
TLauncher’s Java setup page says Java must be installed to run the launcher and Minecraft game. That refers to Java runtime software. Separately, Minecraft: Java Edition is the edition of the game TLauncher launches. Installing or selecting a Java runtime does not make a Bedrock copy compatible with TLauncher.

TLauncher’s guidance recommends Java runtimes by Minecraft version and operating system, and says supported current launcher versions select the recommended runtime by default. Its page covers Windows, macOS and Linux.
Can TLauncher play with Bedrock players?
Not through standard edition multiplayer. Minecraft’s official Java-versus-Bedrock guide says the editions use different servers and that Java and Bedrock players cannot play together. If you want to join friends, ask which edition they use and make sure your game and server are compatible with it.

How Java Edition and Bedrock Edition differ

Those differences matter most when choosing a version for multiplayer: TLauncher’s association with Java Edition will not let a Java session join a Bedrock server through standard cross-play. Minecraft’s official download page also presents Java and Bedrock as separate editions.
