Purple — Window treatments in the singular: BLIND, DRAPE, SHADE, SHUTTER.
The complete board was DIM, SUM, PRODUCT, SHADE, COLOR, DRAPE, REMOTE, DIFFERENCE, CONTRAST, FAINT, SHUTTER, TINT, QUOTIENT, BLIND, BRIGHTNESS and VAGUE. Forbes’ May 8 answer guide gives the groups above. A May 8 ComingSoon page agrees on the board and first three groups but gives a conflicting purple set—CANDLE, CHOP, JOY and YARD—which does not fit its own window-treatment category. The purple answers here follow Forbes’ complete guide.

How Connections works and where to play
The New York Times describes Connections as “a word game that challenges players to find themes between words.” Each daily board has 16 words to sort into four groups of four. The groups are color-coded yellow, green, blue and purple, with yellow generally the easiest and purple the trickiest; some words may appear to fit more than one theme. The NYT says its editors curate categories using the Oxford Dictionary. See the NYT Connections Help Center for game and access details.
The daily puzzle becomes available at midnight in the player’s timezone. It can be played on the NYT website and app. The archive begins with puzzles from June 12, 2023, and is available to All Access and Games subscribers. An NYT account is required to play archived puzzles; archive play can count toward some statistics, but does not change current or maximum streaks. No date-specific solve rate or difficulty score for puzzle #698 is established in the cited sources.
