What did Anthony Armstrong ask Rockstar to do?
In a now-deleted LinkedIn post, Ubisoft developer Anthony Armstrong appealed to Rockstar on behalf of a family member who, according to Armstrong’s account, might not live until GTA VI’s release. PC Gamer reported on January 19, 2026 that Armstrong hoped Rockstar could arrange an exclusive playtest. GamesRadar+ and GameSpot also reported on the request.

The request was for a private opportunity to play before release—not access through a public early-access program. The reported medical details come from Armstrong’s post and have not been independently established in the coverage.

Armstrong later updated the post, saying his family had spoken with Rockstar and received “great news.” PC Gamer quoted him as saying, “We spoke to them today and got great news.” GameSpot reported a fuller version: “We spoke to them today and got great news. That’s all I can really say, but thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”

GamesRadar+ and GameSpot reported that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick helped connect the family with Rockstar. None of the cited reports disclosed what arrangement was made. Armstrong’s reported words describe the family’s update; they are not a statement from Rockstar.
Did the fan actually play GTA 6 early?
The public reporting does not confirm that. PC Gamer explicitly said it was unclear whether the family member would get hands-on access, while GameSpot described the outcome as apparent rather than independently confirming that a play session happened. The original LinkedIn post was later deleted, and the reviewed coverage includes no direct public confirmation from Rockstar that the fan played the game.

So the most accurate description is that Armstrong reported “great news” after speaking with Rockstar. Whether that news meant a playtest—or something else—has not been made public.
