Splitgate 2 went offline less than a day after its May 22, 2025 open-beta launch as 1047 Games worked to address serious server and matchmaking problems. CEO and co-founder Ian Proulx apologized to players, saying the team was working around the clock on repairs. A May 23 report put the downtime at about 14 hours at the time of publication, not as a confirmed final outage length.
Why did Splitgate 2 go offline?
The open beta began on May 22, 2025. Within roughly 24 hours, 1047 Games temporarily took the game offline after severe server-performance problems. Reports described slowdowns across systems as well as matchmaking issues; 1047 Games used the downtime to apply bug fixes and server improvements.
Coverage documented the symptoms, but did not establish one confirmed technical root cause. There is also no validated figure in the cited reports for how many players were affected or what the incident cost.
What did CEO Ian Proulx say?
In a video addressed to players, 1047 Games CEO and co-founder Ian Proulx acknowledged the launch difficulties: “Obviously this is not the spot we thought we’d be in 24 hours after the launch of the beta.” He apologized and promised, “We’re gonna do right by you.” He said the team was working around the clock to fix the servers and make the game the best possible. How long were the servers down?
PCGamesN reported on May 23, 2025, that the servers had been offline for about 14 hours. That was an approximate duration at the time of the report; it does not establish the outage’s final length or a precise restoration time.
Were matchmaking and XP broken?
Reports described matchmaking problems, broader system slowdowns, and delays in XP and progression gains. They did not identify a single confirmed cause for those symptoms. The available coverage also does not document a compensation amount or a specific player-impact total.

Was this the same as the original Splitgate shutdown?
No. The May 2025 incident concerned Splitgate 2’s open beta and a temporary outage for repairs. Separately, the official Splitgate FAQ says the original Splitgate servers shut down in mid-August 2025, while the game remained available through peer-to-peer download. The later shutdown is a distinct event, not the resolution of the Splitgate 2 beta outage.
