Acolyte of Chayula is one of the Monk’s Ascendancy classes in Path of Exile 2. Its identity centers on Chayula-themed mechanics, including Flames of Chayula and effects tied to Chaos damage. The details are patch-sensitive: the official 0.3.0 notes document significant changes, so older build guides may describe mechanics that have since changed.
What is Acolyte of Chayula?
An Ascendancy is a specialized class progression choice. Acolyte of Chayula is an option for the Monk, rather than a separate starting class. Its documented mechanics include choices affecting manifested Flames of Chayula and changes to the way some effects interact with damage and Remnants.

Reality Rending became Sap of Nightmares
The notes say Reality Rending was renamed Sap of Nightmares. Its effect was changed so leech recovery is based on Chaos damage as well as Physical damage. That is a historical description of the 0.3.0 change; consult notes for your installed patch before relying on it for a build.
Lucid Dreaming became a choice of Flame color
In 0.3.0, Lucid Dreaming stopped providing benefits itself. Instead, it enabled a choice among Choice of Life, Choice of Mana, and Choice of Power, which determine the color of manifested Flames of Chayula: red, blue, or purple, respectively. The patch description establishes the choices and colors, but not their current numerical effects or which is best for a particular build.
Into the Breach and Remnants
The 0.3.0 notes also describe a new effect modifier for Remnants spawned by supported skills under Into the Breach, and say that quality improves Remnant effect. Those notes establish the direction of the change, not a current value or a complete explanation of every interaction. Verify the current gem and node text in-game or in official notes for the relevant version.
Is Acolyte of Chayula a good choice for a Chaos build?
Its documented interaction between Sap of Nightmares and Chaos damage makes Chaos scaling relevant to evaluating the Ascendancy. That alone does not establish that it is the best choice, or that a particular Chaos build will work well: the available documented changes do not provide a complete current passive tree, exact present-day values, or a quantified comparison with another Monk Ascendancy.
Before committing to a build, check the current patch’s node descriptions and compare the mechanics that matter to your setup:
- Damage: confirm which damage types your skills deal and how the current nodes scale them.
- Sustain: verify the current leech rules and whether they apply to the damage your build actually deals.
- Defense and trade-offs: compare the benefits and costs of the Ascendancy branches available to your character.
- Flame choice: read the current descriptions for Choice of Life, Choice of Mana, and Choice of Power before choosing based on color alone.
There is not enough verified current information here to rank Acolyte of Chayula against another Monk Ascendancy or give a dependable node-by-node build path.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to check whether a guide is still relevant
- Find its game version. If it predates 0.3.0, its Acolyte advice may not account for the documented changes to Sap of Nightmares, Lucid Dreaming, or Into the Breach.
- Compare node wording. Check the guide’s named nodes and claims against the current in-game descriptions and official patch notes.
- Recheck values and interactions. Do not assume an older damage, leech, or Remnant value still applies just because the node name remains familiar.
- Evaluate the build’s actual goals. Match current damage scaling, sustain, and defensive trade-offs to your skills rather than relying on an old tier label.
A later secondary reference mentions Archon of Chayula, but its exact effects are not established here by an official patch note. Treat detailed claims about later mechanics as unconfirmed unless you can verify them against current official documentation.
