That was Stafford’s claim—not an official casting announcement. The Treyarch game eventually released in 2024 was Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, but official material reviewed for this article does not confirm Stafford’s role or establish whether Ratcliffe appears in the game.
What did Luke Charles Stafford claim?
Insider Gaming reported on July 13, 2023, that Stafford made the claim in a Facebook post. The outlet reproduced his wording: “Activision decided to adapt their next main character, ‘Ratcliffe’ for CALL OF DUTY off of my face / likeness, and I am elated.”
The post, as quoted by the outlet, also said: “Next year, we can beat the snot out of each other again, but I want to play as me.” Both statements were attributed to Stafford; neither was an announcement from Activision or Treyarch.
What evidence was reported?
Insider Gaming described accompanying images and video as appearing to show Stafford in a Call of Duty motion-capture studio. That reporting, alongside his post, is the reported basis for the story. It does not establish that he was formally cast, that the character was finalized, or that the footage was for a specific released game.

Which Treyarch Call of Duty game followed?
In June 2024, Call of Duty officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, with a worldwide release date of October 25, 2024. The official launch announcement confirmed that the game went live worldwide that day. Its campaign is a fictional spy thriller set in the early 1990s, with the Gulf War as its backdrop.
That release fits the timing implied by Stafford’s 2023 post, but timing alone does not connect him or Ratcliffe to the finished game. The official campaign information reviewed for this article does not confirm Stafford’s involvement or identify a character named Ratcliffe.

Is Ratcliffe based on Peter Ratcliffe?
Insider Gaming speculated that the name might refer to Peter Ratcliffe, a British soldier who served in the Parachute Regiment and the Special Air Service and had Gulf War history. This was the outlet’s conjecture, not a confirmed character biography or statement about the developers’ inspiration. The game’s Gulf War backdrop does not prove a connection.
