Cyberpunk 2077: a path-tracing showcase
Cyberpunk 2077’s optional Ray Tracing: Overdrive preset includes path-traced rendering. It is a demanding option, not a setting every high-end PC should be expected to run at native 4K with a high frame rate. The city’s visual style and the lighting mode make it a strong choice for players who want to see how path tracing changes a game’s presentation.
CD PROJEKT RED’s published guidance lists an RTX 3090 target of 1080p at 30 fps for Overdrive. Its requirements page also lists a 2160p at 60 fps target with an RTX 4080 and 16 GB VRAM, measured with DLSS Frame Generation enabled. These are developer-published targets, not guarantees for every system.
Alan Wake 2: atmospheric lighting and path tracing
Alan Wake 2 supports full ray tracing and path tracing on DXR-capable GPUs. Remedy describes the workload as very GPU intensive and recommends an RTX 40 Series GPU and DLSS 3.5 for full ray tracing. Players can adjust graphics quality for their hardware rather than treating maximum settings as a requirement.

Remedy’s January 2025 PC update added DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation and an Ultra ray-tracing preset. Remedy describes that preset as including fully ray-traced reflections, transparent reflections, and higher-quality fully ray-traced indirect lighting. The game also supports HDR and 21:9 ultrawide displays, according to Remedy.
Black Myth: Wukong: another ray-tracing candidate
Black Myth: Wukong is another option for a high-end PC showcase. NVIDIA reports that the game added Full Ray Tracing. Since this feature statement comes from a hardware vendor, treat it as confirmation of the reported feature—not proof that the game looks better than the others or runs at a particular frame rate.

How to choose a graphics showcase
- Choose the visual style you enjoy. Photorealistic lighting is only one part of visual appeal; art direction and the game’s setting matter too.
- Check the rendering mode. Distinguish conventional ray-tracing options from path-traced modes, and check which features the game actually supports.
- Set a resolution and performance goal. A target at 1080p is not evidence of equivalent performance at 4K. Check the game’s settings and hardware guidance for your target.
- Account for upscaling and frame generation. Note whether a performance target uses these features; generated frames are not the same as native rendering performance.
- Tune settings for your PC. High-end hardware does not guarantee that every maximum setting will be smooth. Use the game’s options to balance image quality and performance.
