To see the commands supported by your Hytale server, open its console and run /help. The output lists commands and their usage for the running build; in Update 6, the console also gained tab completion for commands, subcommands, arguments, and flags. You can issue commands through in-game chat when your account has the required permissions, but an old online list may not match your server version.

How to find the commands for your Hytale server

  1. Open the dedicated-server console. Use the console attached to your server process or provided by your host.
  2. Run /help. It displays the available commands and their usage for that server build. Hytale’s Update 6 notes describe the formatted list and per-command usage.
  3. Check a command’s specific syntax. Follow the usage shown by your server rather than assuming arguments from an older guide.
  4. Use tab completion where available. Update 6 added completion for commands, subcommands, arguments, and flags in the console. Start entering a command and use the console’s completion behavior to inspect available options.
  5. Repeat after updates. Commands, permissions, and syntax can change between builds, so check the live help again after patching.

Host-maintained command guides also warn that available commands are build-specific and recommend runtime help; treat third-party lists as orientation, not as a guaranteed inventory. BerryByte’s command guidance makes that qualification explicit.

Where to enter commands: console or in-game chat?

Where you enter it What it is useful for Access considerations
Dedicated-server console Discovering the running build’s command list and carrying out server operations such as authentication. Host guidance describes the console as having broader server authority; it is not the same as granting every player admin rights.
In-game chat Running commands while connected to the server, if the command is available to your account. Permission groups or nodes can restrict commands. Host references describe these checks, but they do not provide a universal official permission table.

HypeServ and BerryByte both distinguish console use from in-game permission checks; consult your host’s configuration and account permissions if a command works in the console but is rejected in chat. HypeServ’s overview groups common examples by purpose, while BerryByte’s guide notes that in-game access depends on permissions.

Check or change the view-radius cap (Update 6)

Update 6 documents /maxviewradius for inspecting or changing the server’s view-radius cap. Confirm that the command exists in your build with /help before using it.

Command Update 6 behavior
/maxviewradius Reports the current cap.
/maxviewradius <n> Sets the cap to a value from 1 through 512 chunks.
/maxviewradius reset Restores the default cap of 32 chunks.

These values describe Update 6 behavior, not a promise that another server build uses the same command or defaults. The Update 6 patch notes are the source for the documented range and reset value.

Command families you may see in guides

Third-party references group commonly discussed commands into broad categories. The names below are examples to help you recognize a command’s likely purpose, not an exhaustive or official list; verify each command and its exact syntax with your server’s /help.

  • Administration and access: /ban, /unban, /kick, /op, /perm, /whitelist, /plugin, /stop.
  • Players and gameplay: /gamemode, /give, /sudo, /tp, /spawn, /warp.
  • World and time: /chunk, /time, /weather, /world.
  • Building and editing: /copy, /fillblocks, /paste, /undo.
  • Help: /help.

These examples appear in host-maintained material such as HypeServ’s Hytale command overview. The reviewed official material does not establish stable full signatures for these command families, so use the runtime usage text instead of guessing arguments.

Why a command may not work

  • It is unknown or the syntax is rejected: Run /help, inspect the command’s usage, and use console tab completion if your build supports it. Avoid copying an old command string without checking its arguments.
  • It works in the console but not chat: Check the in-game account’s permission group or node. Host guidance describes chat access as permission-dependent.
  • A familiar command behaves differently after an update: Check the patch notes and the live help output. Update 6, for example, changed the whitelist permission model: whitelist commands now grant and revoke hytale.server.join, and existing whitelist.json files migrate to whitelist.json.migrated. See the official Update 6 notes.

Server setup context that is not command syntax

The official server manual shows this launch example:

java -XX:AOTCache=HytaleServer.aot -jar HytaleServer.jar --assets Assets.zip

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The manual also gives port 5520 as the default and says Hytale uses QUIC over UDP. These are server launch and networking details, not in-game command rules; check the manual and your host’s configuration when setting up connectivity.
