An Apex Legends loading screen that never finishes does not point to one confirmed cause or one guaranteed fix. Check EA’s service reports first, then restart the game and system. If the problem persists, use the error message, platform, and launcher to choose the relevant connection or game-file steps below.
1. Check whether Apex Legends is having a service issue
Before changing local settings, check EA’s server-status page and @PlayApex for an outage or reported issue. If EA’s servers are affected, repairing files or changing your home network may not help; wait for the service issue to be resolved.
2. Restart Apex Legends and your system
Close the game completely, launch it again, and restart the PC or console if the loading screen persists. EA lists restarting Apex Legends and the system among its initial troubleshooting steps.
3. Look for an update indicator or a specific error
Some loading screens reflect an update or a version mismatch rather than a general loading failure. Follow the step that matches what you see:

- Steam download progress bar: EA says, “If there’s a download progress bar on the launch screen when you load Apex Legends, Steam is updating your game in the background.” Wait for the update to finish before trying to play. This applies when that progress bar is present, not to every loading screen. See EA Help’s Apex Legends error-code guidance.
- Game-version mismatch: Update Apex Legends to the latest patch, then try again. Use the update controls for the platform or launcher where you play.
- An error code or connection message: Use EA’s error-code guidance to identify the instructions for that message rather than treating every loading problem the same way.
4. Try connection troubleshooting only when it fits
If the game reports a connection problem, or other signs point to your network, check EA’s service status first. EA recommends restarting the router for specified connection errors and lists using an Ethernet network as an option. If you already have a cable and compatible equipment, a wired connection can help test whether Wi-Fi is involved; buying equipment is not a universal fix for a loading screen.
5. Repair game files in the EA app on PC or Mac
For an EA app game that will not load, EA’s guidance is to repair the files from the Library:

- Open the EA app and select Library.
- Find Apex Legends and open its three-dot menu.
- Select Repair and allow the process to finish before launching the game again.
These steps are for the EA app; they are not console instructions and may not match another PC launcher. For a PC launch problem, EA also lists turning off the in-game overlay. Its crash and freeze guidance includes closing background apps, which may be relevant if the game is failing to start rather than waiting on a service or connection.
