Access requirement: Defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood in the base game, then enter the Land of Shadow through the Cocoon of the Empyrean Site of Grace. See the official access information.

How to use this boss-location list
The encounters below are grouped as field encounters, dungeon bosses, mausoleum bosses, and main or major progression bosses. Their grouping reflects where and how you encounter them, not a mandatory route. Hidden caves, gaols, catacombs, quest triggers, and story progression can affect access.
PC Gamer’s 2024 guide reports 55 bosses, 42 of which it considers original. That is the guide’s editorial count, not an official total; its count includes tough enemies and repeat encounters that some lists may classify differently. For example, the Scadutree Avatar has multiple phases, while Furnace Golems and other enemy types recur. The publisher’s product information describes bosses in the fields and dungeons without publishing a complete roster.

Field encounters
Furnace Golems
PC Gamer lists eight Furnace Golems across the Land of Shadow:
- Gravesite Plain: just past the Scorched Ruins.
- Southern Shore: along the southern Ellac River.
- Scadu Altus: outside Shadow Keep.
- Scadu Altus: on the eastern road toward the Church District entrance.
- Upper Rauh Ruins: on the west side of the ruins.
- Lower Scadu Altus: near Castle Watering Hole.
- Lower Scadu Altus: outside Unte Ruins.
- Charo’s Hidden Grave: in the west, reached via Jagged Peak.
Ghostflame Dragons
- Gravesite Plain: at the lake west of Abandoned Ailing Village.
- Scadu Altus: on the road south, near a Messmer soldier camp.
- Southern Shore: one flies down as you travel south from Cerulean Coast.
Ulcerated Tree Spirits
- Belurat, Tower Settlement: in the poison area behind the locked well gate, Gravesite Plain.
- Ellac Riverbed: in the riverbed.
- Shadow Keep: in the flooded Church District after you drain the water.
These tough enemies are included in PC Gamer’s boss roster because of their unique drops.
Jagged Peak Drakes
- Jagged Peak: one at the entrance to the mountain.
- Jagged Peak: two more farther up the mountain.
Golden Hippopotamuses
- Scadu Altus: the main Golden Hippopotamus is at the entrance to Shadow Keep.
- Scadu Altus: two regular hippos are in the lake south of Bridge Leading to the Village.
- Upper Rauh Ruins: another is in the lake south of Viaduct Minor Tower.
- Charo’s Hidden Grave: another is in the lake west of the Site of Grace.
PC Gamer distinguishes the main Shadow Keep encounter from the additional hippos; lists that group them together may produce a different encounter total.
Other field encounters
- Tree Sentinels: two encountered sequentially in the Hinterlands, Scadu Altus.
- Fallingstar Beast: in the Hinterlands, Scadu Altus, near a crater and gravity portal. Another walkthrough calls this area Finger Ruins of Dheo; consult the in-game map for the precise sub-area label.
- Ancient Dragon Senessax: near the top of Jagged Peak, beyond the twin drakes.
- Dryleaf Dane: at Moorth Ruins, Scadu Altus.
- Ralva the Red Bear: at the lake northeast of Highroad Cross, Scadu Altus.
- Rugalea the Red Bear: in the woods northwest of Rauh Ruins Base; reach the area at ground level from Scadu Altus.
- Demi-Human Queen Marigga: on a hidden beach reached through ravines near Cerulean Coast West, Southern Shore.
- Death Rite Bird: in a graveyard in Charo’s Hidden Grave, accessible via Jagged Peak.
Dungeon bosses
- Demi-Human Swordsman Onze: Belurat Gaol, Gravesite Plain.
- Ancient Dragon-Man: Dragon’s Pit, Gravesite Plain. This is the dungeon boss, distinct from the similar NPC encounter on the approach.
- Magma Wyrm: Dragon’s Pit, Gravesite Plain.
- Chief Bloodfiend: Rivermouth Cave, Gravesite Plain.
- Death Knight (twin axes): Fog Rift Catacombs, Gravesite Plain.
- Black Knight Edredd: Fort of Reprimand, Scadu Altus.
- Curseblade Labirith: Bonny Gaol, Scadu Altus.
- The Lamenter: Lamenter’s Gaol, Charo’s Hidden Grave.
- Death Knight (longhaft axe): Scorpion River Catacombs, Rauh Ruins Base.
- Jori, Elder Inquisitor: Darklight Catacombs, Abyssal Woods; reach the catacombs from lower Scadu Altus.
Demi-Human Queen Marigga is a field encounter rather than a dungeon boss in this roster.
Nameless Mausoleum encounters
- Blackgaol Knight: Western Nameless Mausoleum, Gravesite Plain.
- Dancer of Ranah: Southern Nameless Mausoleum, Southern Shore. Find a cave along the shore to reach the island.
- Red Bear: Northern Nameless Mausoleum, Gravesite Plain. Reach it through Rauh Base and a nearby Spiritspring.
- Rakshasa: Recluses’ River Downstream, lower Scadu Altus. Go through Shadow Keep and continue down the river.
Main and major progression bosses
Spoilers: The following section names major story encounters and reveals their locations.
- Divine Beast Dancing Lion: Belurat, Tower Settlement, Gravesite Plain. A second Dancing Lion is in a temple in upper Rauh Ruins.
- Rellana, Twin Moon Knight: Castle Ensis, Gravesite Plain.
- Putrescent Knight: Stone Coffin Fissure, Southern Shore.
- Commander Gaius: Shadow Keep back gate, Scadu Altus.
- Bayle the Dread: at the top of Jagged Peak; optional.
- Romina, Saint of the Bud: Church of the Bud, upper Rauh Ruins.
- Messmer the Impaler: at the top of Shadow Keep, Scadu Altus.
- Scadutree Avatar: Scadutree Base, Scadu Altus. Its multiple phases or revivals are part of one encounter, not separate bosses.
- Metyr, Mother of Fingers: Cathedral of Manus Metyr, Scadu Altus. Access is tied to Count Ymir’s quest.
- Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame: Midra’s Manse, Abyssal Woods. The route comes through lower Scadu Altus and down the river.
- Radahn, Consort of Miquella: Enir-Ilim.
Quest-sensitive encounters and missable fights
Some NPC encounters are tied to quest progress and can become unavailable if you advance the main story too far. PowerPyx warns that quest-related NPCs disappear when the Sealing Tree is burned, which can end their questlines and associated NPC miniboss encounters. Before crossing that story threshold, check the status of any NPC quest you intend to finish. The roster’s Dryleaf Dane and the Ancient Dragon-Man encounter on the approach to Dragon’s Pit are examples of NPC-related fights to distinguish from dungeon or field bosses.
Metyr, Mother of Fingers is separately tied to Count Ymir’s quest, so reaching the cathedral alone is not enough to establish access to the fight.
Sources and counting limits
The location roster and PC Gamer’s count come from its Shadow of the Erdtree boss locations guide. PowerPyx’s DLC boss guide also organizes encounters by area and notes that quest-related NPC fights can be lost after the Sealing Tree is burned. Official publisher materials establish the expansion’s access requirement and broad product details, but do not provide a complete boss-by-boss list or definitive total.
