If Apex Legends won’t connect on PS5, first check whether EA or PlayStation services are down. If services are online, work through the simple checks: restart the game and console, update the game and system software, test the PS5 connection, and restart your router. If you can get into a match but experience lag or packet loss, use Apex’s Performance Display and data-center selector to narrow down the cause.
First, identify what kind of connection problem you have
A complete failure to connect and lag during a match call for different checks. If you cannot reach Apex servers, start with service status, then check the game, PS5, and home network. If you can play but the connection feels poor, focus on latency, packet loss, data-center choice, and Wi-Fi conditions.
- Can’t connect or see an error: Check EA and PSN status, then try the restart, update, connection-test, and router steps below.
- High ping, packet loss, or lag: Check Apex’s Performance Display and data center, then test whether Wi-Fi is contributing.
Try these 10 fixes in order
1. Check EA and PlayStation service status
Before changing settings, check EA server status and PlayStation Network status. EA’s live status page lists Apex Legends and platform servers, and its results can change at any time. If either service reports an outage or maintenance, wait for service to return and try again; local network changes won’t resolve a service-side outage.
2. Restart Apex Legends
Close Apex Legends completely and launch it again. A fresh start can clear a temporary error, and EA includes restarting the game among its connection troubleshooting steps. If you still cannot connect, continue to the next check.

3. Restart the PS5
Restart the console, then open Apex again. Both EA’s Apex error guidance and PlayStation’s PS5 network troubleshooting include restarting the platform or console as an early step.
4. Check for game and system updates
Make sure Apex Legends is up to date. Also check for PS5 system software updates: open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Install any available update and retry the connection.

5. Test the PS5’s internet connection
On the PS5, go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. This checks the console’s connection and can help distinguish a console or home-network problem from an Apex-specific one. A successful test does not, by itself, confirm that EA’s servers are available.
6. Restart the modem and router
If you’re following PlayStation’s steps for the NW-102650-4 “Unable to connect to the server” error, switch off the modem and router and wait at least five minutes before turning them back on. Once the network is available again, test Apex. This is a recovery step for your local connection, not a fix for an EA or PSN outage.

7. Improve the PS5’s Wi-Fi conditions
If the console uses Wi-Fi, move it closer to the router and reduce obstacles between them where practical. Crowded Wi-Fi or a router that is blocked or far away can contribute to lag. If several devices are using the wireless network heavily, test Apex when the network is less busy.
8. Try Ethernet as a diagnostic
If you have an Ethernet cable available, connect the PS5 directly to the router and test again. A wired connection can help determine whether Wi-Fi is contributing to the problem, but it is not guaranteed to fix every connection issue. Try a cable you already own before considering buying one.

9. For lag or packet loss, check Apex’s display and data center
At the Apex launch screen, open Data Center and choose a location near you. In the game, enable Performance Display under Settings > Gameplay to view latency and packet loss. These readings can help you tell whether a match’s connection is degraded; they do not, on their own, identify whether the cause is your network or the game’s servers.
EA defines ping, or latency, as the time for game data to travel from your platform to a data center and back, measured in milliseconds. EA describes 50–150 ms as a general ping range, says under 100 ms should keep gameplay running well, and calls under 50 ms particularly good. These are EA’s general guidance, not guaranteed thresholds for every connection.

10. Consider DNS or router settings only after simpler checks
EA says changing to another DNS provider may help if your current DNS is unreliable. PlayStation also lists DNS and port configuration among troubleshooting steps for the specific NW-102650-4 error; those settings are not a universal Apex fix. Router menus and options vary, so contact your internet service provider or router manufacturer before changing port settings if you are unsure what to enter.
