Ready or Not is the closest modern match to SWAT 4 in the available options: it is a SWAT-themed tactical shooter with solo play, online co-op for up to five players, squad commands, breaching, equipment choices and rules of engagement. If you especially want route planning and room-clearing with friends, Rogue Point is another game to investigate, but verify its current release status before buying.
What makes a game feel like SWAT 4?
The comparison is about more than slow movement or tactical gunfights. SWAT 4 emphasizes controlled movement, careful weapon use and consequential decisions, with police procedures shaping how you approach a situation. Its strategy guide also highlights squad orders, officer and suspect AI, less-lethal tools, and both co-op and adversarial multiplayer. As the guide puts it, “You’ll need to think before you act, applying police tactics and procedures to serve and protect.”
That makes procedure, squad control and the option to avoid lethal force useful measures when choosing a modern alternative—not just whether a game has doors to breach.
Ready or Not: the closest modern match
Ready or Not is a modern-day tactical first-person shooter about SWAT police responding to dangerous situations. Its Steam listing describes single-player and online co-op, with co-op for up to five players across platforms. It also lists squad selection and equipment, tactical breaches, threat identification, rules of engagement and civilian rescue. The game’s full release date is December 13, 2023; VOID Interactive is listed as developer and publisher.

Those features make it the clearest fit if you want a police-SWAT setting and the choice to play alone or with friends. Its rules-of-engagement focus is relevant to SWAT 4’s procedural approach, though the available descriptions do not establish that the two games handle every aspect of policing or less-lethal play in the same way. Check the Steam store listing for Ready or Not for current platform options and Windows system requirements; prices, reviews and add-on availability can change. The listing also warns of graphic mature content and disturbing crime themes.
Rogue Point: worth considering for planning-focused co-op
Rogue Point is an adjacent option rather than a direct police-simulation counterpart. PC Gamer’s December 4, 2025 report describes it as a co-op PvE room-clearing shooter about mercenaries, with a lighter tone than a SWAT-focused game. Reported features include a snake camera for checking beneath doors, a pre-match board for drawing routes, hostage rescue and bomb defusal.
That combination may appeal if preparation and coordinated room-clearing matter more to you than playing as police. PC Gamer reported that Early Access was planned before the end of 2025, but that plan alone does not establish whether the game is currently available. Check its current store page and release status before making a purchase decision. PC Gamer’s Rogue Point report covers the announced features and the dated Early Access plan.
