Start with game and system updates, then try PlayStation’s general troubleshooting steps. A 2022 player report mentioned a mixed PS5/PS4 lobby, but it does not prove that cross-generation play causes the crash or that the same issue persists today.
What is known about Arcadegeddon’s Battle mode crash
Arcadegeddon is listed on the PlayStation Store as a free PS4 and PS5 game with optional in-game purchases. Its store description presents it as a cooperative multiplayer shooter with PvE and PvP play; online play for up to four players requires PlayStation Plus. IllFonic’s 2021 Summer Update announcement describes the Battle Mode Machine in Gilly’s Arcade as a way to start PvP battles from the arcade lobby or during a run.
A July 2022 Reddit post describes frequent Battle mode failures in a lobby containing PS5 and PS4 players. That is an individual report, not a verified crash rate or proof that mixing console generations causes the crash. It also does not establish whether the problem remains in the current game version.
IllFonic’s available 2025 developer update mentions Arcadegeddon in the context of its free-to-play transition and additional content, but does not confirm a current Battle mode crash or publish a mode-specific workaround. The sources cited here therefore do not establish a current official diagnosis or guaranteed fix.

How to troubleshoot a Battle mode crash on PS5
Try the lower-impact checks first. These are general PlayStation troubleshooting steps, not Arcadegeddon-specific cures.
- Update Arcadegeddon and PS5 system software. Check for a game update and install any available system software update. The PlayStation Store listing notes that current system software may be required to play the game on PS5.
- Restart the console. Fully restart the PS5, then launch the game and try Battle mode again. PlayStation includes restarting among its general steps for a game that fails to start.
- Check where the game is installed. If Arcadegeddon is on USB extended storage, move the game to the PS5’s internal storage and test again. This is another general PlayStation launch-troubleshooting step.
- Restore licenses if appropriate. PlayStation lists license restoration among its general troubleshooting options. It is not a confirmed remedy for this particular crash.
- Reinstall only if simpler steps fail. Delete and reinstall the game if the crash continues. PlayStation specifically recommends reinstalling for error code CE-109573-5; that does not mean this code applies unless it is the one shown on your console.
- Reserve Safe Mode steps for escalation. PlayStation’s general guidance includes clearing the cache or rebuilding the database for launch problems and persistent CE-109573-5 cases. Follow the current PlayStation game-launch troubleshooting instructions, and back up important data before any consequential recovery step.
PlayStation’s broader CE-109573-5 guidance is relevant only if that exact error appears. Do not assume that a Battle mode crash without the code has the same cause.

Does a mixed PS5 and PS4 lobby cause the crash?
That cause is not confirmed. The 2022 post mentions a lobby with both PS5 and PS4 players, but a single community report cannot show that the platform mix caused the failure. If you can reproduce the problem, note whether it happens in a solo, PS5-only, PS4-only, or mixed-generation party. Treat those observations as diagnostic details, not proof of a general rule.

- The exact activity immediately before the crash, such as entering the Battle mode queue or starting a match.
- Whether you were playing solo or with others, and whether the party included PS4 players.
- The Arcadegeddon version and PS5 system software version.
- Any error code or message shown when the game closes.
