Atari’s “new console” could mean more than one device. The strongest match for a portable-console reveal is the Atari Gamestation Go, a handheld retro system developed with My Arcade and reported released in October 2025. Atari has also released the 2600+ PAC-MAN Edition and Intellivision Sprint, so the model named in the original announcement matters.
Which Atari console was revealed?
The wording alone does not identify a specific model. Atari’s recent hardware announcements cover several different products, and their features are not interchangeable. If the announcement describes a handheld with a built-in Trak-Ball and a 7-inch screen, it is referring to the Gamestation Go. Atari’s newsroom is the place to check the announcement itself when the headline or social post leaves out the model name.
What is the Atari Gamestation Go?
Atari describes the Gamestation Go as a portable retro gaming system developed with My Arcade. Its 7-inch screen is paired with built-in Trak-Ball, paddle, and keypad controls, alongside more conventional controls. Atari’s 2025/26 half-year report says the system comes with over 200 preloaded games; that figure is Atari’s product claim, not an independently measured count. Atari said preorders opened in September 2025, and its May 26, 2026 trading update reported that the system was released in October 2025.
The unusual control set is central to the device’s design: it can support games that use trackball, paddle, or keypad-style input without requiring separate original peripherals. That does not make it a cartridge-playing Atari 2600 or 7800; its preloaded game library and built-in controls are a different proposition.

How does it differ from Atari’s other recent hardware?
| System | Form and game format | What Atari reports |
|---|---|---|
| Atari Gamestation Go | Portable retro system with built-in screen and controls; games are preloaded. | 7-inch screen, Trak-Ball, paddle and keypad controls, and over 200 preloaded games, according to Atari’s half-year 2025/26 report. Atari reported an October 2025 release in its May 26, 2026 update. |
| Atari 2600+ | Home console that plays cartridges. | Atari says it connects through HDMI and plays most Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridges. Its official product page lists a joystick and 10-in-1 game cartridge in the box. |
| Atari 2600+ PAC-MAN Edition | A themed 2600+ release, not the Gamestation Go. | Atari’s May 26, 2026 trading update reports an October 2025 release. |
| Intellivision Sprint | A separate Atari-reported hardware release. | Atari’s May 26, 2026 trading update reports a December 2025 release. |
| Atari VCS | A contemporary video computer system with console gaming and optional Linux or Windows PC mode. | Atari’s official page describes those capabilities; its indexed product status showed products sold out, a status that can change. |
For cartridge owners, the relevant comparison is the 2600+, not Gamestation Go. Atari says the 2600+ supports most—not all—2600 and 7800 cartridges, so check compatibility for an individual game. The 2600+ product information is at Atari’s official 2600+ page.

Atari’s company reporting gives the timeline: preorders opened in September 2025, and its May 26, 2026 trading update says the Gamestation Go was released in October 2025. What to check before buying
- Confirm the model. Gamestation Go is the portable system; 2600+ is the HDMI-connected cartridge console. A headline saying only “new Atari console” is not enough to infer which one it means.
- Match the format to your games. The Go is described with a preloaded library. The 2600+ is the option Atari documents for playing most original 2600 and 7800 cartridges.
- Verify present-day terms locally. Atari’s release report does not establish today’s stock, price, warranty, or regional support. Confirm those details with the seller before ordering.
