Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All! 2 is a comic-faithful 2D beat ’em up with local two-player co-op, but its appeal depends on how much you value the presentation and playing with a friend over combat depth. Reviews praise its look and franchise spirit while criticizing repetition and a conservative approach to the genre. It is most likely to suit fans seeking a straightforward co-op brawler; players after varied, demanding combat may find it thin.
What is Slap Them All! 2 about?
The game sends Asterix and Obelix to investigate the theft of the golden Lutetia Eagle. Justforkix’s father, Doublehelix, has been jailed for a crime he did not commit, and the two Gauls set out to clear his name. Nintendo and Microids describe it as an original story told through a comic-book-inspired 2D beat ’em up.
Microids’ feature list includes charged character moves, Fury mode, a distinct Ultimate attack for each character, additional enemies and bosses, destructible scenery, and throwable barrels and menhirs. Those additions give players more tools and spectacle, though critics have questioned whether they add enough variety to sustain the action.
What do the reviews say?
Presentation is a strength
Reviews consistently identify the comic-like visuals and faithfulness to the source material as among the game’s strongest qualities. TheSixthAxis’ Adrian Burrows, reviewing the PS5 version on November 16, 2023, praised the presentation even as he judged the gameplay harshly. Switch critic excerpts collected by Metacritic also describe the visuals as charming and source-faithful.

Combat and encounters can feel repetitive
The main reservation is a narrow-feeling combat loop. TheSixthAxis criticized the limited moveset, repeated enemies and encounters, and the absence of leaderboard incentives. Its reviewer called the game “an absolute boresome chore to play,” a particularly severe verdict that sits alongside the same review’s praise for its comic-like appearance. Selected Switch review excerpts on Metacritic take a more measured line, describing limited depth and challenge compared with other recent beat ’em ups; one calls the sequel overly conservative and repetitive.
A short, simple experience rather than a deep brawler
The available critic excerpts characterize the game as a decent short experience, but not one that offers the depth or challenge some players may expect from the genre. Metacritic’s excerpts are selected reviews, not a representative poll, so they illustrate the range of criticism rather than establish a consensus score.

Can you play Slap Them All! 2 with a friend?
Yes. Microids lists local co-op for two players, and Nintendo’s US Switch listing says one system supports one to two players. Steam identifies local multiplayer on PC and notes that a controller is required. The cited product information supports local play; it does not establish online co-op.
Co-op is a meaningful part of the game’s appeal: a friend can make a simple, repetitive brawler more enjoyable as a shared activity. It does not, however, change the critical concern that the fighting itself offers limited variety.

Is Asterix & Obelix: Slap Them All! 2 worth playing?
Consider it if you are an Asterix fan, enjoy its comic-book presentation, or want an uncomplicated local co-op game to play with someone. Look elsewhere if your priority is a broad moveset, substantial combat depth, or enough encounter variety to keep a solo campaign fresh. The core trade-off is clear: charming franchise presentation and couch co-op, set against action that critics often found repetitive.
