Assetto Corsa Content Manager is an alternative launcher and content manager for the PC racing simulator. It gives you a place to organize installed cars, skins and other content, set up sessions and access online and customization features. It does not replace Assetto Corsa, and it is not the same program as Custom Shaders Patch (CSP).
What is Content Manager for Assetto Corsa?
The project maintainer describes Content Manager as “A custom launcher and content management app for Assetto Corsa.” In practical terms, it handles many of the front-end tasks around the game: choosing content, configuring a drive or race, and launching it. The game itself remains responsible for the driving simulation.
The maintainer’s feature page lists quick-drive and career functions, online-server features, management of installed cars, skins and other content, and a section for CSP. Which options are available or work as expected can depend on the versions installed and the user’s configuration. See the maintainer’s Content Manager page for the download and feature information.
Content Manager and CSP: what is the difference?
Content Manager and Custom Shaders Patch are separate projects with different roles. Content Manager is the launcher and library interface; it also provides a place to install and manage CSP. CSP is a separate modification for Assetto Corsa. The maintainer lists CSP capabilities such as weather effects, dynamic lights, particles, physics extensions, optimizations, fixes and car extensions, but availability depends on the installed version and configuration.

So, installing Content Manager does not by itself mean that every CSP feature is installed or enabled. Think of the launcher as a way to manage and access game content and related settings, rather than as a graphics patch in its own right.
Is Content Manager free? Lite versus Full
The maintainer offers a downloadable Lite version and a Full version unlocked with a key after supporting the project through one of the payment channels listed on its page. The maintainer describes Lite as having restricted access to new features, work-in-progress sections and prerelease builds.

If you are deciding whether to support the project, check the maintainer’s current Lite, Full and download information directly rather than relying on an old price quoted elsewhere.
Do you need Content Manager to play Assetto Corsa?
No. Assetto Corsa is the game; Content Manager is an alternative launcher and content-management app. The game’s Steam listing identifies it as a Kunos Simulazioni racing simulation released on December 19, 2014, and lists keyboard, joypad, joystick and steering wheels among supported input devices. A steering wheel is optional hardware, not a Content Manager requirement. See the Assetto Corsa Steam listing for the game’s description and input-device information.

An independent Content Manager guide describes a setup using an installed Windows copy of Assetto Corsa and pointing the app to the game folder. Treat that as the guide’s platform and setup instructions, rather than a universal requirement confirmed by the maintainer’s feature page. For the app download, use the maintainer-linked page and avoid relying on unofficial mirrors.

Many players can use the game without Content Manager, but a league or organized event may make it part of its setup. For example, the IMechE 2025/26 Formula Student Sim Racing Series regulations require server access through Content Manager and specify CSP and Sol requirements for that series. Those rules apply to that event; they are not universal requirements for every Assetto Corsa player, server or community.

If you plan to join an event, follow its own installation and version instructions. Requirements for CSP, weather tools or other add-ons can vary by server and organizer.

How to get started
- Install Assetto Corsa. Content Manager works around the game rather than replacing it. The independent guide cited above describes using an installed Windows copy.
- Get Content Manager through the maintainer’s linked page. Review its Lite and Full information there, since access terms and price are subject to change.
- Point the app to your game folder if prompted. The independent guide describes this step; follow the version-specific instructions shown by the app.
- Choose only the additions your session requires. CSP and other add-ons are separate from Content Manager. Check the instructions for the server or event you intend to use before installing or changing versions.
Common questions to settle before installing
- Will it improve graphics automatically? Not simply by being installed. Content Manager is the launcher; CSP is separate, and its features depend on installation and configuration.
- Is Full required? The maintainer offers Lite for download, with restrictions on access to newer features, work-in-progress sections and prerelease builds. Whether those restrictions matter depends on what you want to use.
- Is a racing wheel required? No. Steam lists several supported input types, including keyboard and gamepad, as well as steering wheels.
