In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Magneton evolves with a Thunder Stone; in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, references list both a Thunder Stone and leveling up at Mt. Coronet. In games that use a special magnetic field, the location—not a specific level—is the condition.
How the evolution method differs by game
| Game | How Magneton evolves into Magnezone | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Pokémon Scarlet and Violet | Use a Thunder Stone; no special magnetic-field location is required. | Bulbapedia’s Magneton entry, a secondary reference. |
| Pokémon Sword and Shield | Use a Thunder Stone. | Bulbapedia’s Magneton entry, a secondary reference. |
| Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl | Use a Thunder Stone or level up at Mt. Coronet. | Serebii’s evolution-method list, a secondary reference. |
| Earlier games with a special magnetic field | Level up Magneton in the designated magnetic-field location; the exact location depends on the title. | Bulbapedia’s Magneton entry; check the specific game for its location. |
When should you evolve Magneton?
If your game allows the evolution and you are ready to use Magnezone, evolve Magneton then—unless you are waiting for a particular move. There is no general level threshold to wait for when evolution is triggered by a stone or a location.
Check the move you want in your game
Learnsets can differ between games, so compare Magneton’s and Magnezone’s moves in the exact title you are playing before deciding to delay. Pokémon Support’s explanation of move changes notes that moves can vary across games and may be replaced when a Pokémon is transferred to a game that does not support them.
Do not assume a specific waiting level
The official Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Trainers Guide explains that delaying evolution can allow some Pokémon to learn a desired move earlier. It does not establish a Magnezone-specific move or level at which you should wait. Confirm the learnset for your game before holding off on evolution for a move.
