There is no verified evidence in the available reporting that a specific Apex Legends glitch reset player accounts or deleted earned content. EA’s guidance identifies several reasons progress or items can appear missing, including signing into the wrong EA Account, unlinking a platform account, Cross Progression merge effects, and temporary loading issues. Check those possibilities before treating the problem as permanent data loss.
Does the reported Apex Legends glitch reset accounts or remove earned items?
That claim is not substantiated by the available sources. An October 1, 2026 anti-cheat update, reproduced on Reddit, describes a modified-client exploit that duplicated a weapon optic beyond intended limits. The post says the player crashed and reconnected to try to take advantage of disconnected players, received a permanent ban, and that the exploit was fixed. It does not say player accounts were reset or earned inventory was deleted. The community-hosted reproduction is not a direct official EA page, so it should not be treated as confirmation of an account-reset incident.
No incident-wide count of affected players or lost items is established in the available sources. If your progress or inventory has disappeared, use EA’s account and missing-content guidance to investigate your own account rather than assuming it was caused by that exploit.
Why can Apex progress or items appear to be gone?
You may be signed into a different EA Account
EA says Apex Legends progress is tied to the EA Account, not freely transferable between platform profiles. If you launch the game with a platform account linked to a different EA Account than the one that holds your progress, the game may look like it has been reset. Check which EA Account is signed in and whether the intended platform account is linked to it. EA says progress cannot be moved between EA Accounts. EA’s lost-progress guidance explains how to check.

A platform account may have been unlinked
Unlinking a PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or other platform account can remove access to the Apex progress associated with the EA Account it was linked to. EA recommends relinking the platform account to the original EA Account where the progress resides. Do not link it to another EA Account in an attempt to move the progress; EA says progress cannot be transferred that way. EA’s Cross Progression guidance covers linking and merge limitations.
A Cross Progression merge may have affected what you see
Cross Progression combines eligible linked accounts under one EA Account. EA says a single EA Account can host one Apex account, merged accounts cannot be unmerged, and some progress lost through certain multiple-account merges cannot be restored. If the timing of the missing content coincides with a merge, review the account and merge details before changing links again.

Some legacy rewards depended on statistics that could not be merged
Not every reward behaves like ordinary inventory during a merge. EA says some legacy badge and reward categories were linked to stats that could not be merged, including certain ranked rewards, battle pass badges, collection-event badges, and achievement badges. A missing item in one of these categories may therefore have a different explanation from a broad inventory loss. EA’s Cross Progression information describes these limits.
Content may not have loaded, or an account may be compromised
EA’s missing-content guidance recommends restarting the game, confirming the signed-in account, and checking server status. If all your items are missing, EA says that may indicate your account was compromised; follow its account-security guidance and secure the EA Account. EA’s missing-content instructions provide the applicable steps.

What to do when Apex progress or content is missing
- Confirm the EA Account. Check the account currently signed in and make sure it is the EA Account originally used with the Apex progress you expect. EA’s lost-progress page explains how to find that progress.
- Check platform linking. In your EA Account settings, verify that the platform account you use to play is linked to the EA Account that holds the progress. If it was unlinked, EA advises relinking it to that original account. Avoid experimenting with other EA Accounts: progress is not transferable between them, and some merge outcomes cannot be reversed.
- Restart and check service status. If items are missing but the account appears correct, restart Apex and check EA server status before concluding the content is permanently gone. These are among EA’s recommended checks in its missing-content guidance.
- Contact EA if a purchase remains absent. For purchased content that has not appeared after 24 hours, EA advises contacting support and providing proof of purchase. The 24-hour interval applies to this missing-purchase guidance; it is not a stated recovery deadline for all progress or items.
- Secure the account if the inventory is entirely missing. If all items have disappeared, use EA’s account-security steps and contact support through its missing-content page.
How to distinguish a display problem from possible data loss
| What you notice | What to check | What EA’s guidance supports |
|---|---|---|
| Progress appears reset after changing platform or sign-in | Which EA Account is signed in, and which account the platform profile is linked to | Progress is tied to the EA Account; switching accounts can make it appear missing. EA lost-progress guidance |
| Progress became inaccessible after unlinking | Whether the platform account was detached from the EA Account that holds the progress | EA advises relinking it to that original EA Account. EA Cross Progression guidance |
| Specific legacy badges or rewards are missing after a merge | Whether the reward is tied to a stat that could not be merged | Some categories, including certain ranked, battle pass, collection-event, and achievement badges, had merge limitations. EA Cross Progression guidance |
| Items are missing temporarily or a purchase has not appeared | Restart the game, confirm the account, check server status, then contact support for a purchase still absent after 24 hours | These are EA’s recommended missing-content checks; proof of purchase is advised when contacting support about an absent purchase. EA missing-content guidance |
What is confirmed—and what is not
EA’s support pages establish that account mismatch, platform unlinking, merge limitations, and loading or service issues can explain apparent missing progress or content. The October 1, 2026 exploit account describes optic duplication, crashes, reconnect attempts, and a ban, but does not connect that exploit to account resets or deleted earned items. The causal claim in the headline is therefore unverified by the available sources.
