Where to find the Architect Crest
- Go to the Underworks. Locate the Twelfth Architect.
- Buy the Architect’s Key. A third-party walkthrough lists the price as 110 Rosaries. Game Rant’s walkthrough covers the key and route.
- Enter the Chapel of the Architect. Use the key to unlock the chapel and obtain the Crest.
Guides do not agree on a toolkit prerequisite. Gamer Guides reports either 12 offensive tool kits or 25 total toolkits, while other walkthroughs give different or less precise requirements. Because those figures conflict, do not rely on either as a confirmed threshold; if the Architect does not offer the key, continue collecting toolkits and check the dialogue again.
What the Architect Crest does
Game8 describes the Crest as having three red tool slots and a Bind action that spends Silk to craft tools. That makes it a tool-focused option: it can support an offensive loadout and replenish tools away from a bench, but using Bind takes time and leaves Hornet vulnerable. Its usefulness therefore depends on having the tools and resources your build needs, and on finding safe moments to Bind.
Is it a good Crest for your playstyle?
- Consider it if: you rely on offensive tools and want the flexibility to craft tools with Silk during a run.
- Think twice if: your Silk or shard supply is tight, or you cannot safely create the opening required for Bind.
Game8’s suggested loadout is one guide’s recommendation, not a verified best-in-slot build. The available sources do not establish a controlled comparison of tool capacity, Silk skills, replenishment, costs, or Bind vulnerability across every Crest, so the Architect Crest cannot be called objectively superior.

What is known about the Architect lore?
The community-maintained Hollow Knight Wiki attributes this environmental line to the Cogwork Architect Statue: “We would hear the song of the Architects, at the core of our Citadel.” It is an in-game inscription, not a statement by a named character or developer. Team Cherry’s official site confirms the game, but does not provide Crest-specific item details; the unlock and mechanics described here come from third-party guides and community material.
