Arknights: Endfield takes the Arknights universe to Talos-II, a dangerous frontier where the player leads Operators and Endfield Industries as civilization expands. Its defining move is to connect real-time, four-Operator combat and exploration with automated factories that produce resources used in progression and preparation. It is therefore more than a conventional action RPG—or a standalone factory simulator: the systems are designed to feed into one another.
What is Arknights: Endfield?
Arknights: Endfield is a free-to-play 3D game set in the Arknights universe. On Talos-II, the player takes the role of the Endministrator, leading Operators and Endfield Industries into unsettled territory. GRYPHLINE describes it as a “3D Industrial RPG,” framing exploration, real-time combat and base-building as parts of a new frontier story rather than separate modes. GRYPHLINE’s launch announcement uses the same genre label.
The series’ move into 3D is part of the expansion, but the more unusual distinction is how industrial production is tied to the expedition. The game asks players to manage both the people exploring the frontier and the systems that support them.
Is Arknights: Endfield an action RPG?
It has action-RPG combat, but that label leaves out a central part of its design: the Automated Industry Complex (AIC). The official PlayStation Blog gameplay overview describes real-time battles in which up to four Operators fight together. Players can switch control between them at any time, using basic attack strings, skills fueled by SP, ultimates and conditional combo skills. Stagger, positioning and timing also matter.

That combat sits alongside exploration and industrial planning. The AIC lets players design automated production lines and facilities that make equipment, medical supplies and other resources. Those outputs support character growth, resource management, exploration and combat preparation. In practical terms, the game’s combat-and-exploration side gives the production network a purpose, while the production network supplies tools and materials for the wider expedition.
Does Arknights: Endfield have factory building?
Yes. Factory building is one of the game’s core systems, not merely a separate crafting screen. Players arrange facilities into automated production lines and can use the Blueprint system to build, copy, relocate, dismantle, save and share layouts. This offers both hands-on planning and the option to reuse a production design rather than reconstruct it from scratch.

The publisher’s framing is that industrial systems, exploration and squad combat form one connected adventure. That makes Endfield a less straightforward fit for someone seeking only a conventional action RPG: planning production networks is part of the intended experience. Conversely, its factories exist within a frontier adventure and support Operators, rather than turning the game into a factory simulator alone.

How big is the franchise expansion?
Endfield extends Arknights into a 3D frontier setting and builds its main play around systems that the publisher presents as interconnected: Operators fight and explore, while industrial production provides resources that support their development and preparation. GRYPHLINE co-founder and director Light Zhong described the aim as combining real-time squad combat, exploration and large-scale industrial systems in one adventure. In the launch announcement, Zhong also characterized the move from 2D to 3D as a major milestone and said the team committed to factory automation as an idea it wanted to pursue.
Quick Recap
GRYPHLINE’s launch release reported more than 35 million pre-registrations for Endfield and more than 100 million downloads for the Arknights franchise to date. Those are publisher-reported figures: pre-registrations are not sales or active players, and the franchise download figure is not an Endfield download count. The same release described launch sign-in and milestone rewards as equivalent to at least 135 pulls across different banners; that was a launch promotion, not a statement of a permanent or current offer.
