Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Claws of Awaji released on Nintendo Switch 2 on March 10, 2026, at 12:00 a.m. local time. It is a paid expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, not a standalone game; players need the base game to play it.
Claws of Awaji Switch 2 release date
The expansion is already available on Switch 2. Ubisoft announced its arrival for March 10, 2026, at midnight local time. Its earlier Switch 2 launch announcement had said the expansion would arrive later in 2026; the March announcement superseded that original timing. Ubisoft’s availability announcement confirms the release.

What the expansion includes
Claws of Awaji sends Naoe and Yasuke to Awaji Island to pursue a lost historical treasure and investigate a mysterious shinobi. Ubisoft describes traps, ambushes, and new enemies, alongside new skills, weapon abilities, outfits, armor, and gear. Some of that gear can be used in the main game. Ubisoft estimates the expansion offers more than 10 hours of additional content; that is the publisher’s estimate, not an independently measured playtime. How to buy and what you need
The DLC is a separate digital add-on, and it cannot be played on its own. You need Assassin’s Creed Shadows for Switch 2 first. Ubisoft identifies the Nintendo eShop and the game’s in-game store as purchase routes. Players who pre-ordered any edition of the game are entitled to the expansion at no additional cost; otherwise, it must be purchased separately. Check the current listing for your region for availability and price.

The physical Switch 2 edition of the base game is a game-key card, not a card containing the complete game data. The card provides a key to download the full game. Ubisoft released the base game on Switch 2 on December 2, 2025. Its launch announcement listed a launch price of $59.99 USD / €59.99 EUR, but that historical figure is not a statement of today’s price in every region. How to unlock the expansion
Spoiler-adjacent access requirement: You must make substantial progress in the main story before the expansion becomes accessible.

- Complete the main story arcs for both Naoe and Yasuke.
- Complete the “Out of the Shadows” quest. Ubisoft says it becomes available after completing their personal quests and Junjiro’s personal quests.
- Find Hanzo’s contact at the Settsu Hideout to proceed to the expansion.
Switch 2 features
For the base game, Ubisoft lists touchscreen controls for menus, maps, the store, and hideout navigation, plus a 30 fps target in both docked and handheld modes. Ubisoft also says the game can be played offline after installation; an internet connection is required for installation. These are publisher-stated details for the Switch 2 release.
