The Auto-Petter is a Stardew Valley tool that pets animals in a barn or coop once per day. It helps protect friendship and mood when you cannot pet each animal yourself, but it does not provide the full friendship benefit of manual petting.
What the Auto-Petter does
Place an Auto-Petter inside a barn or coop to have it pet the animals there once per day. It can be placed elsewhere, but it has no effect outside a barn or coop.
The Stardew Valley Wiki reproduces the in-game description as: “Joja Co. patented technology for coops and barns. Keeps your animals content, but can’t replace the full benefit of human touch. Hand-petting can be provided to supplement.”
How it affects friendship and mood
An Auto-Petter prevents friendship and mood loss from missed petting and gives approximately the same mood boost as manually petting. Its friendship benefit is 8 points per animal, compared with 15 points for manual petting.
