Astroneer: Glitchwalkers is the game’s first expansion, taking players to Aeoluz, a new planet in a new solar system. It adds an expansion-only story, hazards and progression, while some related storm content was also added to the base game for free. Steam lists the PC release as November 13, 2024; Nintendo’s US Switch listing gives December 10, 2024.
What is the new planet in Glitchwalkers?
Aeoluz is the new planet at the center of Glitchwalkers. System Era Softworks describes it as part of a new solar system and calls it the biggest planet the studio has created to date. The developer says Aeoluz has eight new biomes, dangerous terrain, unique points of interest and redesigned caves. Its caves include planet-wide firewalls that players must disable to progress. Who is the villain?
The antagonist’s name changed between the announcement and later expansion materials. In the September 3, 2024 Xbox Wire announcement, System Era introduced Lyn, a disgruntled systems expert from the E.S.S. Elysium crew who can manipulate Aeoluz, its biomes and its atmosphere. In the later expansion overview, the antagonist is called Bl!tZ: a disgruntled Elysium crew member who has infiltrated the Astroneer Training Program’s code and created a glitched solar system and digital storms. Players work with Frank, the Elysium’s Head of Maintenance, to thwart her plans.
What gameplay and story does the expansion add?
Aeoluz’s storms are central to its hazards and missions. Players investigate Glitched Storms and the more dangerous Hacked Storms, gather storm data using the RUBY module, develop storm protection, recover Rootkits and repair hacked Gateway Chambers. The expansion also adds missions and lore, new items such as the Vault Finder and D-Cipher Module, and a reset catalog with separate Aeoluz progression.

How to access Aeoluz
Players must first make progress in the base game. System Era’s stated prerequisite is completing “A Core Concept,” followed by the “Is This Thing On?” mission chain. After reaching Aeoluz, players begin a new save with progression separate from their existing game.
Which Glitchwalkers features are free, and what requires the DLC?
The new planet and its storyline are exclusive to the paid expansion. System Era says Glitched Storms, the RUBY module, storm-data nuggets and other content were also added to the base game for free, along with a mission line leading toward the expansion. That gives base-game players access to some related content, but not Aeoluz or its DLC-exclusive story.

An expansion owner can host players who do not own Glitchwalkers. According to System Era, guests can join missions, experience the story and explore, but they do not receive the DLC-exclusive rewards.

Release dates depend on the storefront listing and region. Steam lists the PC expansion release as November 13, 2024, and says the Steam DLC requires the ASTRONEER base game. Nintendo’s US listing gives the Switch digital content release date as December 10, 2024 and also requires ASTRONEER. These listings establish dates for Steam and Nintendo’s US storefront, not every platform or region.
