If Baldur’s Gate 3 textures look blurry, appear missing or corrupted, or pop in only after a delay, those symptoms can have different causes. There is no single guaranteed fix. First note which symptom you see, your platform, when it began, whether mods are or were installed, and whether it happens in one save or location or throughout the game. Then work through the relevant checks below.
Identify what “textures not loading” means
Before changing settings, describe the problem precisely. A consistently fuzzy image is different from black or invisible surfaces, and both differ from textures or objects that appear after a delay. The distinction helps you test likely settings without assuming every visual issue has the same cause.

- Blurry or fuzzy everywhere: The game renders, but the image lacks sharpness.
- Missing, black, corrupted, or invisible textures: Specific surfaces or objects look wrong or absent.
- Delayed loading or texture popping: Surfaces or objects appear after you enter an area or wait.
Record your platform (Windows PC, macOS, or Steam Deck), when the issue started, whether it followed a game update, whether mods have been installed, and whether it happens consistently, in a particular save or location, or in other games. Take a screenshot if it clearly captures the fault.
Try the official PC troubleshooting checks
Larian’s graphical troubleshooting guidance and bug-report instructions recommend several diagnostic checks for PC issues. These are not guaranteed texture-specific fixes; test one at a time and see whether the symptom changes.

Compare DirectX 11 and Vulkan
Use the game launcher to switch between DirectX 11 and Vulkan, then check the same save and location. If one API changes the symptom, note which one and how. Larian recommends trying both, but does not identify one as universally better for texture problems.
Verify the game files
For Steam, open the game’s properties and use the file-verification control. In GOG Galaxy, choose Manage Installation > Verify / Repair. Let the check finish, then reopen the game and test the same situation.
Check for leftover mod files
Larian cautions that mods and residual mod files can cause issues. If you have used mods, inspect the game’s Mods and Public folders and the local AppData Mods folder for files left behind. Avoid deleting saves or entire profile folders: they also contain saves and configuration. Back up important data before changing profile files. Clear the LevelCache contents
Larian recommends clearing the contents of %LocalAppData%Larian StudiosBaldur's Gate 3LevelCache. This is a general troubleshooting step, not a confirmed explanation for every texture fault; the guidance notes that corrupt cache files can cause problems, usually while saving or loading. Remove the contents of that cache folder rather than deleting unrelated profile data.

Update drivers and compare graphics settings
Check for graphics-driver and Windows updates. If the problem accompanies broader display issues, Larian also suggests resetting the driver’s 3D settings to defaults. As a comparison, lower the graphics settings and resolution or switch to Windowed mode. If the symptom changes, raise settings gradually to identify a configuration that works.
If the image is blurry on Steam Deck
Larian’s Hotfix #34 post specifically addresses blurry visuals on Steam Deck: it says the default FSR 1 upscaling can make the game look blurry and suggests changing the setting to FSR 2.2. Open Video > Upscaling Type and select FSR 2.2, then compare image sharpness and performance. Larian notes that this can cost some performance. This advice is limited to the blurry-image issue described in that Steam Deck post; it does not establish a fix for missing or corrupted textures on other platforms.

Check whether Windows storage meets the requirement
Larian’s official system requirements say an SSD is required for Windows play and recommend installing the game on one. Both the minimum and recommended Windows specifications list 150 GB of available SSD space. If BG3 is installed on a hard drive, move it to an SSD to meet that requirement, but do not assume the change will repair every visual problem.
Report a persistent or reproducible problem
If the checks do not help, submit a bug report to Larian with enough detail to distinguish your case. Its reporting guidance asks for information such as whether the issue is consistent or occasional, what you already tried, what happens versus what you expected, and steps to reproduce it.
