The announcement named Game Pass Console, PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. That is a historical availability announcement, not confirmation that the game remains in the catalog today.
When did Modern Warfare III come to Game Pass?
Xbox announced the arrival for July 24, 2024, across Game Pass Console, PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. The announcement described the game as available on console and PC; it does not establish current catalog status or current plan names for every region. Xbox Wire’s July 23, 2024 announcement is the source for the date and named tiers.
What was included in the game?
The Game Pass announcement described three parts of Modern Warfare III:
- Campaign: The story follows the events of Modern Warfare II and continues Task Force 141’s pursuit of Vladimir Makarov.
- Multiplayer: The announcement included the game’s competitive multiplayer mode.
- Zombies: It called this the franchise’s first open-world Zombies experience.
These are descriptions from Xbox’s announcement, not a claim about later updates or the game’s current content.

Which platforms and editions were listed?
In an October 1, 2024 FAQ, Activision listed Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, plus PC editions through the Microsoft Store, Battle.net and Steam. The FAQ specifically says the Microsoft Store PC edition is accessible to PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. That platform list is separate from the July announcement’s list of Game Pass tiers. Activision’s Modern Warfare III Editions FAQ provides the platform and edition details.
Did cloud gaming arrive on the same day?
No. Xbox announced on October 14, 2024 that Game Pass Ultimate members would be able to play Modern Warfare III through Xbox Cloud Gaming starting October 25, 2024. Cloud play was a later expansion, not part of the July 24 arrival announcement. Xbox Wire’s October 14, 2024 announcement gives the cloud availability date.

Do you need to buy a disc?
No disc is required for Game Pass access. Activision documents an Xbox Cross-Gen physical edition for Xbox Series X and Xbox One, but says physical editions do not work on Xbox Series S. Anyone considering a disc should check the console compatibility before buying; the physical purchase is a separate route from playing through a subscription.

The sources cited here establish the July 2024 arrival and subsequent cloud-play date, but do not establish whether the game is in the catalog now or which plan includes it in a particular region. Because catalog membership and plan availability can change, check the current Game Pass listing for your region before subscribing on the assumption that it is included.
