PlayStation’s official announcement trailer is dated August 19, 2025. That is the trailer’s publication date; it does not establish the exact moment the initial announcement was made. Atari later announced a May 22, 2026 release date, which Steam lists as the game’s release date. Atari’s Xbox Wire launch post, also dated May 22, said the game was available on Xbox that day.

Atari is the publisher, while Fabraz developed the game. Atari marketing representative Ryan Greenberg described the team’s aim as making a modern 3D platformer that could serve as a redemption for Bubsy while keeping the character’s cartoon nature. That is the publisher’s stated intention, not an independent assessment of the finished game.
What kind of game is Bubsy 4D?
Bubsy 4D is a single-player 3D platforming adventure set across intergalactic worlds with a craft theme. In the official synopsis, Bubsy pursues the Golden Fleece after the Woolies’ sheep revolt as BaaBots. The game’s movement set includes leaping, gliding, wall climbing, pouncing, and rolling quickly in a hairball form.

Fabraz founder Fabian Rastorfer said in Atari’s Xbox Wire launch post, “Bringing Bubsy back feels great!” He said the team wanted to revitalize the character in a way that felt fresh to new fans while remaining authentic to longtime fans. Greenberg described “redemption” as a goal for the project. These comments explain the creators’ ambitions; they do not establish how players or critics have received the game.
